两道OG上的语法题，求解惑！分析不清了T-T

C    The reference of them is unclear and the expression is generally awkward.
E    Correct. The land area of Laos is correctly compared to that of Great Britain; whom refers appropriately to people.

这道题我当时选了C，明白了them指代不清这个问题。但是OG说awkward是为什么？


2. When Congress reconvenes, some newly elected members from rural states will try to establish tighter restrictions on the amount of grain farmers will be allowed to grow and to encourage more aggressive sales of United States farm products overseas.这句是正确的句子，但是没有分析明白结构。
主语和谓语标红了。但是后面又出来一个will be allowed应该是做farmers谓语吧？为什么没有连接词结构分析不清楚了T-T

楼主，我认为是句子说法太冗长了，也就是废话太多，不精练

第二个问题：
时间状语从句When Congress reconvenes,
句子主语some newly elected members from rural states
will try的两个动作to establish ... and to encourage ...
其中的will try to establish tighter restrictions on the amount of grain （that）farmers will be allowed to grow中的farmers will be allowed to grow是定语从句，省略了that（因为that做to grow的宾语）
