I do agree with what you said.
To be honest and fair, Cox is a great school.
But, the tuition is not the LOWEST, if you comapre with the top 10.
The major difference is the living exp, considering the rent my other buddies pay in NYC and Boston and Chicago.

My classmates got lay-off 'cuz of the bad economy. not the school ranking.
But the DFW area won't pick up much in the next near.
I am facing this every day when trying to grow the business for my boss.

You guys should do better two years later.
Good Luck!

Venus sis, you are right. The tuition of Cox is $29000 one year. But don't be frightened by this high amount, especially when most of other applicants draw back. Please believe you can get scholarship. If you do so, you will get it. Then you will only spend the same amount as you will in Bschool in China or Hongkong. Basing this cost, you can easily compare the benefit you will get from Cox.

BTW, if you are an ordinary applicant, do not imagine you will get scholarship from top 10.

给Cox助助威!

A recent paper, “Business Research in Eight Business Disciplines” by
Larry Robinson (Rice) and Roy Adler (Pepperdine) ranked the leading business schools according to research productivity based on citations.  Five departments, at SMU were ranked in the top 30:  economics (29), finance (25), marketing (16), strategy (16) and information systems (13).

The research rankings of the top 30 schools are based on the mean number of citations per faculty member in the respective discipline.  This procedure takes into account size differences in departments across the various schools.

The productivity rankings of the Cox faculty are remarkable, and the hard work of our faculty brings great distinction to the Cox School and to SMU.  Our students are fortunate to be taught by such an outstanding group of scholars.

Congratulations to all of you who contributed to this very impressive showing.  You make us all proud.

Thanks. You said that 75% tution is the max scholarahip? If so, the amount u will invest in China or HK is about RMB 250,000.
N COX, YOU CAN PAY ONLY 250,000 FOR TUTION AND LIVING EXPENSE?
Just interested in the scholarship.

Right! If you get 75% scholarship, you only need to pay $10000 tuition. For the living expenses, you will spend at most $20000 in two years if you are lapped in luxury. In fact, most Chinese here spend only $15000 living expenses in two years. As a MBA, cost is absolutely one of most important factors you need to think over.

Moreover, Cox is a high level school in US. Its rank had been stable around 35. Because of small class and bad economy, the rank drops this year. However, its high quality education still won't let you to be disappointed.

Tell you a truth, now I had an advanced communication class with only one instructor. No school can provide such kind of good chance except Cox.

We still have Global Leadership Program. That mean you can travel to Europe, Latin America, or Asia in three weeks with no money. American Airline sponsored this program. No any other Bschools have provided or will provide this kind of service because of money issue.

Personnally, I think Cox is one of best choices below top 20 Bschools.

Ulsa,
It is so kind of you to share us so much.
I had a research of this school. The placement seems not so nice. Not so many big name companies recruit here. In addition, SMU is a big name in China.

BUt any way. dallas is a big city. Cox does have a beautiful campus. pay USD 25000 for an mba, cox is really a good deal.

Guys,

A few clarifications.
I do not know many MBAs that could make it with 15 grands for two years.
At least you need a car and, even if it is a very "pre-owned". you still need 4 grands in 2 yrs including insurance and gas.
Even though I got the 2nd highest scholoarship, I had spent a lot more than 15 grands and be aware that there will always be unexpected expenses.

GLP is not free. You have paid for the credit hours, right? That is, on average, 1000 USD per credit hr. And basically you will pay for about half of the trip.
Also, the GLP is about 2 week, NOT three, unless their changed it.

Tend to be more consevertive would be my suggestion.
There will be rainy days.

Good Luck.

BTW, I am not a sister.
My wife and I use the same account.
She is appying for Cox and I finished mine in the past May.

As far as I know, most Chinese students here buy their cars in US$2500-3500. If you spent $4000, it's really a good car.

GLP is actually free in some sense. On the one hand, it is one of your courses. If you paid US$29000 tuition, you did pay GLP. On the other hand, you do not need to pay air tickets, hotel during the time. What a good deal!
However, thank you for your correction. GLP is two weeks not three weeks. I just checked the website. Sorry for my mistakes.

Do agree with you. We do need to consider any unexpected expenses. But any unexpected expenses happened to any Business Schools, right?

Moreover, you can get an apartment in Dallas in $730 a month (two bedroom, two bathroom. If you share with another guy, your rent is pretty attractive.

Wish your wife good luck for her application!

MBA job placement up from last year!

Dear Cox MBA Community:

Just in case you didn't see this article in last Friday's "Coxweekly" e-newsletter, I wanted to share this encouraging news.

MBA Job Placement Up From Last Year
Only two weeks old, 2004 is already proving to be a great year at SMU Cox. The MBA Career Management Center reports that job placement for the class of 2004 MBA candidates is up considerably from last year. So far, 17.6 percent of the 102 students reporting have accepted offers, compared with only 2 percent accepting offers at this time last year. This pace puts SMU Cox right in step with other top MBA programs across the country, such as the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Rochester, according to a recent Wall Street Journal article. Associate Dean of Masters Programs Marci Armstrong states that MBA placement could easily reach 20 percent by the end of next week, as students with offers still outstanding come to a decision.
