not really, asset mgt is not necessary mutual funds that trace indices.

many money mgrs use absolute return if their strategies are marketneutral.  and some hedge fund guys are actually long-only. they pretend to be hf by using absolute returns so that they can chargecarries.

anyway, the real line is quite vague and merging.
