前不久答应了DREXEL U 的 FINANCE 的 PHD
的OFFER，当时没有其他的OFFER，所以在答复DEADLINE的前一天就答应接受他的OFFER了。现在突然收到了U OF GEORGIA
的 PHD IN RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE 的
OFFER，一下子感觉乱了阵脚。最重要的问题是，已经答应了别人如果反悔是不是很不道德，是不是还有其他方面的约束。如果是那样的话我就不会去麻烦这事
了。



顺便再问问关于RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE
毕业后的出路，听说没有FINANCE好，FINANCE研究覆盖的面更广，职位更多。但U OF GEORGIA 比
DREXEL的名气好像要高很多，而且课程上RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE 会学大部分的FINANCE 的 PHD
的课程。



头痛中。请XDJM们帮忙出出主意，该怎么办。谢谢了。

I do not think it is a serious problem.

You can change it. Just explain to the school.

You have no obligation to abide by your commitment before April 15. Only after thhat date should you stick to your earlier decision.

So it's not too late to tell Drexel that you would not go.

Below is the full context of the 4-15 treaty. Please refer to it. But be careful to handle the issue.

Acceptance of an offer of financial support (such as a graduate scholarship, fellowship, traineeship, or assistantship) for the next academic year by a prospective or enrolled graduate student completes an agreement that both student and graduate school expect to honor. In that context, the conditions affecting such offers and their acceptance must be defined carefully and understood by all parties.

Students are under no obligation to respond to offers of financial support prior to April 15; earlier deadlines for acceptance of such offers violate the intent of this Resolution. In those instances in which a student accepts an offer before April 15, and subsequently desires to withdraw that acceptance, the student may submit in writing a resignation of the appointment at any time through April 15. However, an acceptance given or left in force after April 15 commits the student not to accept another offer without first obtaining a written release from the institution to which a commitment has been made. Similarly, an offer by an institution after April 15 is conditional on presentation by the student of the written release from any previously accepted offer. It is further agreed by the institutions and organizations subscribing to the above Resolution that a copy of this Resolution should accompany every scholarship, fellowship, traineeship, and assistantship offer.

U of Georgia's Risk Management and Insurance is good, and terry's rank is also satisfying.

楼主拿到的offer给奖学金多么？当初看他们的网页说好像没什么奖学金似的，就没有申…… 偶申这个专业的，可以联系一下哦～～

terry's ranking is good... risk management and insurance is a branch of
finance and shall have good future, though the job market supply and
demand side are both low right now... but going to industry you can
also make big money.

奖学金不多，14K一年加上可能的一些另外的资助。不过听说生活费不贵。ATHENS是一个CITY，但由於号称文化气息较浓所以感觉是一个TOWN。今年他们只招一个，TEMPLE的那个RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE我也申请了，他们的那个DEPARTMENT今年没有分到钱，所以问我没钱是否有兴趣，当然是不会去的。WHARTON的那个我没报。GEORGIASTATE 和 U WISCONSIN 的 RISK MANAGEMENT 都把我据了。就目前情况来看，RISK MANAGEMENT ANDINSURANCE工作没FINANCE好找，每年毕业的才6-7个，FACULY职位只有4-5个，也有人去INDUSTRY的。象GEORGIA的TERRY毕业出来的RISK MANAGEMENT 学生的SALARY是90K-110K，比GEORGIA 的FINANCE毕业生的工资略少10-20K。

不过RISKMANAGEMENT我认为将来的发展空间还是挺大的，很多就是FINANCE的东西，所以FINANCE将是他们规定的MINOR，FINANCE的80%的课程包括RESEARCH我们都要上，这个专业新兴的研究领域是把RISK MANAGEMENT ANDINSURANCE和FINANCE理论的结合，所以我个人比较感兴趣。

以上是目前的一些浅薄的想法，希望能和大家一起切磋。如果你拿到了RISK MANAGEMENT 的 PHDOFFER，请问你是WHARTON的还是GSU，还是U WISCONSIN 的呢，好像FLORIDA STATE也有，不过不强，我看到我们那个专业毕业的某些人去FLORIDA STATE教书。不过也有到更差的地方去的，如U OF LOUISIANA 或U OF ARKANSAS。

偶的wharton和wisc一早被拒,前一阵在gsu的wait list1上,今天教授来信说应该可以给我,今年招了4个人.他们的program改革了,而且近两年雇了好多新的faculty. 很郁闷的是他们的网页上找不到就业的情况,不过gsu的综合名气实在是不太好,不知到有没有影响

RMI毕业工作似乎的确不太好找,听说wisc毕业的也是去一些unknown colleges,而且面试我的教授说他们学生去industry的并不多,because the company does not value their ideas,所以大多数都是做faculty,有回南开保险系的. 感觉国内industry是不会要phd的吧?(不太了解哦)
