Hi bluesyy and all, you are way too polite and I am really happy to share with you guys my great experience here. To clarify, I am a current FIRST year student who got an internship offer from investment banking division of the Banc of America Securities NYC office and one of my Chinese classmates obtained an offer from Bain for the coming summer. There are altogether 9 Chinese students for the Class06 and another girl from Beijing got an offer from Johnson & Johnson, and another boy took the offer from a local consulting firm, still another girl is working on the opportunity of ING, which I see very promising. Other Chinese boys and gals are working on their coming interns and I think because of the recruiting nature (they want job from corporates either for finance function or marketing function, and those companies started recruiting much later than IB or consulting.), their offers are still on the way.

The reason I say it might be more difficult to land an offer from the industries is that not all of those companies recruit international students (not like IB or consulting which are totally open to internaitonals at least for the case of my classmates-Chinese, Russians, Indians, Romanian, Turkish just to name a few who got offers from big names of both IB and consulting). I think this is true for most of the B-schools here in the states, even for those top top ones.

Dear Uiber,

Thanks for your useful information. I am currently facing a issue to deciede among Emory, UNC and Georgetown.

UNC is a old MBA brand and has a solid reputation. However, Emory is up, up, up and I know it hires a new very good dean from Carlson school. So I believe it will still progroess in the following years.

Both Emory and Georgetown have good location. However, Georgetown is in DC and more closer to NYC. I will head for financial service sector after graduation. From this angle, GU's location seems better than Emory. And it seems have a better nationalwide recognition than Emory.

I don;'t know my understanding is right or not. I would like to learn your comments.

Thank you.

I have great respect for Georgetown as an undergraduate school.  D.C. is a wonderful place.  If you prefer D.C. over Atlanta, choose Georgetown.

But if you give priority to a career in financial service, despite all Emory advertising, just remember one thing, I heard that the Director of Career Office in Emory was a former I Banker in a big I Bank (which one I'm not sure, maybe Morgan).

uiber,

it seems that the job prospects at Goizueta are very good. The offers from BOA and Bain, I guess, are outstanding achievements even in the eyes of Chinese from top ten schools. Is it because of your own merits or the reputation of the school?

May I also ask a personal question? Have you applied for higher-ranked MBA programs last year?

Best wishes

Thanks for all of your best wishes and kind words. The Director of Emory's Career Management Center is a former banker from Goldman Sachs. The CMC really helped a lot for the internship searching, organizing NYC Trek in November and then the super day interview of those big names on the Street in Jan. There was also trips to Charlotte, another fin. center of the States. In addition, Emory does have a lot of alums in those banks and most of them are really warmhearted. One thing is critical for I-banking intern, it would be safter to get an interview if you have relevant former work experience. I don't mean that there is no career switchers, there are and some second year students who are from non-traditional career tracks for IB not only obtained internships but also full time offer. But former relevant w/e will make it a bit easier.

I should say school life here is by no means easy. I am now being "killed" by my write-ups for I-Banking and marketing and will have mid-terms during the coming week. As I said, sometime you will even feel that you cannot make it. But, with your efforts (including "suffering") and others' help, you will survive all the academic difficulties. The very thing that can help the most is good time management. I cannot stress more on this point. This is so true also because there are so many things that will distract your attention from academia, Late Nights (parties on every Thur.), Kegs, Poker Tournament, various clubs, etc. You will have a lot of fun!

I think UNC is a great school and now is also one of the arch-foes of Emory from our perspective :p. During interviews with those banks, I met several current students from UNC and found them very kind and smart. However, I am really not familiar with either UNC nor Georgetown, the only thing I know is that both are enjoying national reputation.

I did apply for some other higher-ranked MBA programs, such as Kellogg and Chicago, dinged by the first one and waitlisted by the second. I should say if there were chance, I, for sure, would like to see what was going on on those famous campus. Nevertheless, the great offer of Goizueta of Emory really didn't turn me down and the experience of breaking records (e.g. the ever-climbing ranking of Goizueta on Businessweek and USNews) and making history is really awesome!

Have to end here to finish those endless papers :p GOOD luck to all of you guys!
