2012年 7月28日考题:When youare assigned an important presentation for work or school, you prefer to workon it right away so that you can work on it a little bit every day, or waituntil you have a good idea about the presentation?
Myanswer: Currently, the ability to make and deliveran appealing presentation is playing an increasingly important role in one’sstudy and work. People are divided on whether to begin right now and break thebig project into smaller tasks or to finish the whole project in a shorter timewhen they are inspired after a long wait. For me, starting the process right now, breaking the whole project into smaller goals and then achieving them one byone is a better choice, which is not only more productive and rewarding, butalso makes me grittier.
First, waiting is just a waste of time. Becauseunexpected problems lie everywhere in the whole process and good ideas thatcome into your mind suddenly always turn out to be unsuitable for the wholeproject. In a Contemporary Music class of my college, I was required to make apresentation of my interpretations on features of rock music. Having beenwaiting for a good idea to emerge for two weeks, I felt really worried about anempty mind of me. What’s worse, when I decided to use the music of Metallica asan example, I found their music is not a perfect instance that can cover all mycomprehension of rock, which means the waiting paid me nothing. In other words, waiting for a time was neither productive nor rewarding.
Second, only being proactive can you beproductive. Still the story mentioned above. Anxious as I was, I decided todivide the preparation into three smaller tasks: specifying what I want todeliver, finding three classic examples and finally synthesizing them into onepresentation. And eventually I worked out a delicate presentation in just oneweek, which is just half of the waiting time. Again, being proactive is allthat being productive means. Besides, never are good ideas sudden ideas. So, keepworking on, and good ideas will reward you unexpectedly.
Third, including preparing for apresentation, committing to arduous work and progressing a little bit every daymolds a gritty character. According to a researcher who gave a lecture aboutsuccess on the stage of TED, being gritty rather than having a high IQ gradecontributes to one’s success in life. In most cases, making a presentation is along process and need great patience. Starting the preparation as soon as itwas assigned to you, making some tiny progress every day, fixing every mistakeand flaw before presenting it from time to time prepare you a gritty person, which means you will be more likely to follow through facing some difficulttimes in the future.
In conclusion, in order to be productive,to receive a good result and to be a grittier man, I prefer to begin right awayand work on the presentation a little bit every day.
想加入写作小分队,选题可以由自己定吗?不能的话,会不会覆盖的话题范围不够广呢?
