大家好：

我们是Cornell Johnson Class 2013 & 2014的同学。今年的申请季又快临近了，因为之前在CD受到了很多前辈的帮助（尤其感谢megachaoren），我们打算把超人同学的legend延续下去，继续为大家解答和申请相关的问题。目前手头有一些较新的信息可以和大家分享一下：

1.2014级中国同学（中国大陆护照）大概在20-25人之间，具体的数据我会尽快和admission office核实一下。华人的数量超过30个（包括ABC，在澳洲长大的香港同学等等），所以Greater China开party的时候还是很热闹的。

2.目前summer intern的同学已经相继回校，其中一些也已经拿到return offer（有J&J上海，citi IBD香港，citi commercial bank NYC等）。每家公司的return offer发放时间不同，有些intern结束立即出结果，有些要等1-2周或者1-2个月。具体数据也会陆续在这里更新。

3.今年Johnson会有一个新的dual-degree， MBA/Meng，是一个两年制的MBA和engineering双学位（engineering的部分方向有望在Manhattan的tech campus上课）。 学位信息和申请方法在Johnson的网站上已经可以查到，我个人觉得还是挺不错的，毕竟Cornell的engineering school一直都有很好的声誉。

What can the combination of a Master of Engineering and an MBA do for you?
The Master of Engineering is a professional degree, designed to give engineers more advanced engineering skills along with teamwork and communication skills that enable them to move into engineering careers at a higher level. The College of Engineering offers master's degrees in 15 fields, with the flexibility to include coursework in other scientific and technical fields.


The MBA adds knowledge and skill in all the business functions along with a general management perspective. The combination of these degrees prepares engineers to advance through product development and engineering management roles to higher levels of business leadership.


Some of our alumni, like Dito Garcia, believe their MBA/MEng degree combination has put them on the fast track to advance to higher levels with greater business responsibility in corporate technology companies.


Others, like Dave Gleberman, have put the knowledge and skills they gained through their dual degree program into highly successful entrepreneurial ventures. M.ENG./M.B.A. DEGREE


If you aspire to a leadership or management role in the engineering profession, you can benefit from a strong foundation in all of the functional areas of business, as well as opportunities to learn and apply leadership skills. At Cornell, you can enhance and accelerate your career through the M.Eng./M.B.A. degree program, earning two Ivy League degrees in two years: your M.Eng. from the College of Engineering and your M.B.A. from the Johnson School. This degree option is also available if you prefer to gain work experience after completing your M.Eng. and then return to the Johnson School.


The two degree programs have separate admission processes. You must apply to the Accelerated M.B.A. program after you enroll in—or have completed—the M.Eng. program.


Each year, the College of Engineering and the Johnson School award several $40,000 Knight Scholarships to top students who choose to pursue dual M.Eng./M.B.A. degrees.

今年北京、上海两场info session的时间已经确定，北京是9月27日晚7点-9点（地点待定），上海是10月1日晚7点-9点（地点待定）。一旦确定了地点，我会第一时间告诉大家。目前确定admission office的associate director Ann Richards会参加这两场info session。

此外，关于MBA和MEng dual degree，也有一些消息分享给大家：


1.这个program是两年，第一年MEng，第二年MBA。由于第二年的MBA会在5月份就开学（参考AMBA的课程安排），所以之间没有时间做summer intern，但是也会有足够的时间准备full-time招聘。我个人也在申请Dual Degree，和Admission及不少校友都聊过。好处就是，读dual degree的人一般都有比较清晰的职业规划和感兴趣的领域，这样在求职过程中，也比较容易打动recruiter。并且，一年的master学习，也能有更多的机会了解行业动向，认识更多的人。


2.明年入学的Class 2015，应该还是在Ithaca上课。从Class 2016开始（2014入学），Engineering school的一部分专业会搬到Manhattan campus。目前还不知道那些专业会过去，但应该是focus在technology、innovation和entrepreneurship三个方向。


3.学费今年的还没有出来，大家可以去网站看看去年两个degree分别的学费，相加一下就可以。


4.Dual degree应该会录取10-15人，申请难度不会增加或降低，但是要求分别拿到两个学院的录取。（也可以先读Meng，在第一学期申请MBA，其他的dual degree也可以这样申请）

Hi all,


给大家汇报一下我们一年级同学的近况：


首先，我们刚刚考完了Microeconomics和Accounting的mid-term，很快到国庆后又要迎来final了。Cornell的课程设置很紧凑，每门课就是大概两个月，23节左右的样子，中间一般会有两个quiz，一个mid-term或team write-up，再加一个final。每门课程课前阅读的强度也不一样，Accounting每次都是几十页的书，Econ只要扫几眼course pack就可以。


其次，从上上周开始，corporate briefing的大幕也拉开了。每年第一个来Johnson做Briefing的都是SC Johnson（我们的name partner哈哈），其后还有JPM，E&Y，Merck，GE，P&G等等。往往那些support H1B visa的公司来的时候，一个大教室都会做得满满的，如果只招美国学生（ 包括绿卡），就会冷清不少。


再次，各种各样围绕career展开的活动也是从一开学就开始了。比如我参加的consulting club，每周都会有定期的meeting。学校还按照大家的career aspiration，把所有学生分成了不同的CWG（career work group），包括IB，consulting，asset management，corporate finance，marketing等等。其中asset management还细分出VC，PE，PWM等等不同的小group。每个group大概是5-7个年纪学生，由两个暑期做了相关实习或有相关背景的二年级学生带领，从改简历、写pitch开始，一直到练case，基本第一个学期，除了自己的core team，大家也会花很多时间和自己的CWG member/leader在一起。Cornell的一大特色就是，很多活动都是以学生为主导的，比如我的CWG，leader非常非常负责。前两次meeting我错过了，leader专门帮我改了简历，会后还会征求大家的意见，不断对meeting的流程和内容进行改进。此外，每个学生都可以schedule和career office的老师单独谈话，他们会根据你的背景、职业目标，给出一些切实可行的建议。比如我想做healthcare，CMC就给我推荐了一个05年毕业、目前在做healthcare consulting的校友，一是觉得consultant会对整个行业有更全局的认识，二是那位校友也是中国人，可能更容易找到共同语言。


最后，虽然学习很苦逼，大家玩的还是很开心的。几乎周周都有party和各种家宴。最让我惊叹的是，Johnson同学们的厨艺都非常好啊，回国都可以到新东方厨艺培训学校当老师了。


说说这一个月以来的一些感受：


1.MBA真是一个提高个人时间和精力管理能力的好时机。上课学的东西都不是特别难，但是多，特别多，活动也多，各种信息更多，所以如何管理自己的精力真是一个很重要的课程。每天都会收到十几到几十封学校发的邮件，各种活动，让很多同学刚来的时候非常不适应。


2.不管essay怎么写，早点想好自己的career path还是很重要的。虽然也有牛人能把banking,consulting, corporate都试一边，但对大多数人，这还是一个顾此失彼的问题。更何况，从开始开始参加的所有活动，都和你未来的职业规划有着或多或少的关系。如果真的现在没有想清楚，那么拿到offer后，进学校后，多找校友谈，慢慢narrow down自己的兴趣范围。


3.再说说有点敏感的中国同学比例的问题。首先，各个学校的中国同学都在增加，这个应该是普遍趋势，毕竟如果参考中国的人口数量和国际地位，这个比值以后只会上升不会下降，所以想找一个没有中国学生竞争的地方，基本是不可能的了。其次，真正会知无不言言无不尽帮你的，还是中国学生。在Cornell，以中国学生为主的两大club，Asian Business Association和Greater China Business Club都会自发组织很多活动，比如和校友的conference call等。我们也有非常好的美国同学，但是更多时候，大家还是being politely nice。最后，还是让自己nb起来最重要。如果你不nb，到哪儿都会有比你nb的人把你压下去，去矬子里当将军也没有意思对吧？

如果是off-campus，有可能是校友，也有可能是和ao、二年级学生的skype/telephone interview；
如果是on-campus，一般是ao或者二年级学生
