2006年10月21日口语真题第2题 (104)

I don’t think people should always tell the truth because sometimes lying doesn’t definitely mean to harm others and even it is a good strategy under certain situations. The first example is when we take care of a patient who suffered serious illness. It is wiser for us to tell lie since this will ignite hope for him. Another case is in business, when people are negotiating with others, acceptable lies will help them to win more benefits. There are also some special careers such as spies, they should hide the truth all the time, but everyone admit they are the hero for us.

2006年10月21日口语真题第4题 (104)

On the lecture, the professor talks about the self-fulfilling prophecies, which starts as an expectation, after a psychological process called “self-suggestion”, the participants start to firmly believe in that expectation. Then he goes on talking about the following examples to support his idea. In a experiment, normal American kids were selected from all over the country randomly. Educators were told that the kids were top students and they should be educated as geniuses. So encouragement and praise were widely used in this process. For years later, researchers find most kids educated and encouraged as geniuses demonstrated hints of apparently high IQ than normal kids.

In this dialogue, the man talks about the problem between physical training and literature reading. And the woman gives him the following suggestions. First of all, he should quit the team for this time and rejoin it next year. But the man thinks he wouldn’t quit. Secondly, he should talk to the coach. In my opinion, it is better for the man to talk to coach. By talking to the coach, the man will have the direct chance to explain the situation and find fastest way out of the trouble. Maybe the coach will allow him extend two semesters to meet every standard required.

2006年10月21日口语真题第6题 (95)

In this lecture, the professor talks about an exception to the tradition rule of price and demand, which means under certain circumstances, when the prices of some products rise, the demand for them could still boot for a period.
Then he gives the following example to demonstrate it. In the 18century’s Britain, bread was chap food and more affordable than meat. So occasional moments when the price of bread increases, most people couldn’t afford meat so they will still purchase breads for storage. Then the price and demand still kept rising for a certain period.

2006年10月22日口语真题第1题 (98—第一段就够时间)

The person I admire most is my teacher. She is an excellent teacher with the following personalities. Fist of all, she makes herself available to all students and she knows which students need extra help. Furthermore, she is an skilled communicator who knows when she needs to change her communication techniques to be sure everyone can grasp her idea. What is more, she would show her great ability when her students are making mistakes, she would let them know why they are wrong and how they are going to do to correct them rather than simply punish them.
Just like an old saying goes, “give me a fish I eat for a day, teach me to fish and I eat for a life time”, this must be a philosophy of every good teacher.

2006年10月22日口语真题第2题 (117)

I don’t agree with the claim that university should educate all students. First of all, this will cause tension on teaching resources and available facilities, it also means government should budget all the things completely different. In the mean time, the faculties can not cope with the boost in enrollment either. What is more, if students are crowded in a big classroom instructed only by one teacher, they would not obtain enough personal attention, not to mention manipulate the facilities in the lab by their own. After all, people attend to college for better preparation for future career. If all students are accessible to higher education, they won’t be able to find good jobs after they graduate.
