To msyefu, do u have any idea about the failing rate of prelim at UMN and Wisconsin? I am curious about this since both schools got bad placement records these years also, and both programs are trying to make changes. I am not sure if they will kick out more students by failing students. BTW, the reason I am curious is b/c I am put on the waitlist on these two.

wisconsin的金融只是过micro的qualify，虽然很难但过去几年没几个fail的，而且据说一个fail的转到了USC marshall
不过他们的placement在网上没找到，ls怎么知道是bad的呢？
umn的prelim该不是很难，不过如果他们今年招5个以上的话，我估计肯定要fail些人，毕竟他们faculty的资源不足以支持这么多学生，umn的placement看上去挺正常的，跟他自己的地位也算相配。CD上有人说他们今年的placement非常好，不过我觉得这个看个人的水平和运气。样本太少，噪音太大，不能预测。

呃，你没仔细看我的话，还有我引用的话，我说的是Wisc的econ系，不是金融，而且我是“听说”，因为“听说”Wisc这个econ系即喜欢发ad，也喜欢发第一年不给钱的offer，然后在很庞大的第一年学生里面踢人……我很反感这种策略，committee当初招人的时候，尽可以多花点时间和申请人聊聊，认真选嘛，对招进来的PhD学生用“丛林法则”，对学生不公平。

关于UTA，我引的那位MM的话，是“不如人意”，这总不能解释为“很好”吧，我后来也没说过它们系“bad”吧？只是好奇，因为毕业生的placement是个很重要的指标吧，我看到的大部分学校都会列出来，不少还很详细，像UTA这样的实在少见，还请了解的同学说说。

The prof told him their placement is not good, so they will increase the offer.  UMN this yr offers more than 5 chinese students, but will all of them choose UMN? Are u going to UMN? Thx.  BTW, I am very likely to get in UMN since the prof there told me they will offer several rounds this yr, and they still have a few offers to be released.

我觉得如果你umn和madison都有希望的话还是争取下后者，至少每年多不少钱。劝劝neo，哈哈
