为什么不能选D呢？

我把 injured three times 理解为状语， joined and was discharged 并列平行。

选A吧？我理解join the army, was injured, was discharge是三个平行并且具有时间先后顺序的三个动作，后面had become是表示在discharge之前的状态

是选A，但是injured three times 理解为状语有哪里错了么？

至于最后的时态，我觉得用had become或者was都没问题
