82. Colleges and universities should require theirstudents to spend at least one semester studying in a foreign country.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to whichyou agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning forthe position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describespecific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would notbe advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.

The speaker asserts that it is necessaryfor colleges and universities to require students to study in a foreignuniversity for more than one semester. Admittedly, learning in a foreigncountry provides students with a good opportunity to broaden their horizon in academicscope. Nonetheless, the author neglects the fact thatcolleges’ and universities’ abilities are qualified to limited internationalacademic resources and qualities of students.

I agree that sometimes studying aboard fora semester is great experience.Itwill enrich students’ academic scope. Enormousforeign universities are abundant in educational resources, enabling us to getthe firsthand research information, even exchange ideas with renowned scholars.Students can be obsessed in their libraries or well-equipped laboratories to doresearches they are interested in. And if they are problematic about thesescholars’ ideas, it is very convenient for them to contact them and offer theiradvice, which may create a breakthrough discovery and inspire students’research passions with professors’ encouragements.

However, this statement ignores that notall colleges and universities in China mainland have the privilege to givestudents chances of learning abroad for at least one semester. Considering the diversityof colleges and universities in China mainland and the limited financial supportsof central and local government, only the best students of the bestuniversities have the direct right to be exchange students in friendlyuniversities abroad. Even if others would like to get this chance, they have tobe wealthy to afford the expensive fees of flights and living in a foreigncountry.
Also, as though students go to anotherforeign universities, the quality of exchanging universities cannot be promisedto be crowded with sufficient academic materials and favorable environments. Collegesand universities abroad are intermingled and some cannot offer better excellentcourses to students. For instance, arising from taboos of some universities inreligious countries in culture, a research project or your favorite courses areunlikely to be offered and what you can do is to go travelling, which will be awaste of lifetime.
And people must take into account that unlikethe students older than 18 abroad who have lots of jobs after school to earn aliving, some Chinese students is not independent both in their daily life andthoughts. By absorbing foreign countries’ orient and unique culture andnotions, they may be confused and do things unimaginable in mainland, resultingin doing damage to their bright future. Consider, for example, in some westerncountries, it is legal to carry with guns, which is illegitimate in China, students accustomed to free style of foreign countries may attack those whoannoying them due to an impulse.

In anutshell, it is not the duty of the colleges and universities to encouragestudents to learn in foreign countries at least one semester, but to firstly requirethe government to offer fair academic chances, then train studetns independenceof thoughts and eventually choose appropriate universities for students forbetter academic researches and colorful life.
