Do you agree or disagree the following statement? The rapid growth cities today's should have a positive effect of the development of the society.
超时
As modern society develops, there are an increasing number of cities and this is where the controversy arises. Some people believe that it is definitely bad for the development of the society. Meanwhile, those who are opposed to it cite that the rapid growth of cities have a positive impact on the future of the society. As far as I am concerned, the latter idea is more reasonable.
To begin with, I cannot deny that the former opinion has some advantages. The obvious point I have to mention is that the expanding of cities does harm to out environment. Expanding the area of the city has to occupy a lot of land which is the must of wildlife living. If the habitat where animals and plants depend on was destroyed, these creatures have no place to live in. Absolutely, the balance constructing cities would bring about pollution, such as air pollution, water pollution, solid pollution and so on. It is undoubtedly that the quality of people’s life is decreased. These reasons above definitely have a bad effect on the development of our society.
Nonetheless, considerable though the merits which the rapid growth of cities leads to are, they cannot compete with the benefits that constructing cities rapidly causes, when the development of the economy is taken into account. An increasing number of cities must bring about lots of corporation and enterprises which are willing to invest in the city. The more the number of corporations are, the higher the economical level is. The importance of the economy to the nation and individuals can never be exaggerated. For the country, the status in the world is directly related to the financial condition. If there is a prosperous situation annually, the status of the country will be improved. For the individuals, they could get more money and live a better and easier life.
Furthermore, owing to the level of education in the city is higher, the rapid growth of the city is beneficial for those who are illiterate or semiliterate, which would further the development of the society. For example, in China, there are many places where most of people have not been to school. So they just understand laborious labor work which contributes to a little money and these poor areas form an enormous burden for the whole society. But if these regions become cities, the teachers in the city would teach them and the level of knowledge would be improved. It is significant for the society.
To sum up, although several drawbacks which building more cities would bring about exist, the advantages of the rapid growth of cities far outweigh them, because economical improvement can strengthen the power of a country and an educated person is able to contribute to the society, which are the positive factor of the development of the society. From my own perspective, the rapid growth of cities must benefit for the society as long as reinforcing the protection of the environment during the process.
