Hello there and good to hear from you!
So, I dint know the details of your profile or GMAT, but obviously the GMAT is the first thing. I don’t think you have to obsess about a 740, but just try to get the best score you can. Sometimes a 700 can be enough to get into Top schools, even for Chinese students, if your application is interesting enough. Even if it takes you six months and you do only 30 minutes a day, you have plenty of time tow work on the GMAT, so that should work in your favor.
Now once you have the GMAT,t hen you can start thinking about: where can I apply? Where do I go? You should try and schedule things to make R1 of this year, which means complete the GMAT by the beginning of June and be read for applications in July.
As for the money: Don’t worry about it right now, but we can think about that further after you have your GMAT, and we can think about school strategy too.
Best,
JF
