英国本 美国哥大硕 毕业后在纽约工作 华尔街投行中后台2年经验 目前业余加入创业团队
GMAT还没考 托福免考 本科GPA很高 硕士一般
申MBA主要是因为想career switch, 从技术支持类转到核心业务类，如IBD/PE/VC/consulting。请问我的情况通过MBA转换职业方向可行吗？大概能申到什么样的学校？毕业后能转到理想的岗位吗？

Hey there,

I have similar experience and career goal. I am in management consulting now and would like to try investment banking as a post-MBA career. Before I was also intended to put PE/VC as my career goal but I found it very challenging to elaborate based on my limited experience. I still see investment banking or management consulting experience from a prestigious firm is a prerequisite for PE/VC jobs, no matter with or without an MBA. For example, my ex-boss just left my company, which is not a top-notch consulting firm, and is studying for his MBA at Kellogg now. His post-MBA goal is PE and even as an American, he found the PE recruiting was challenging due to his lack of relevant experience. However, during my school visits, I did see a couple of students from non-traditional backgrounds secured internship/full-time jobs at PE firms, so I guess it's a case-by-case situation.

Also, objectively and unfortunately, if you are an international student, it's a bit harder since very few PE/VC firms will be willing to provide visa sponsorship (however, ignore this part if you are not. Haha).

Investment banking is a highly structured recruiting at business school and as technology companies have raised the bar for salaries and attracted lots of MBA students, investment banks are really short of talents and working very hard on their campus recruiting. I think as long as you are at a decent business school with a great platform for investment banking recruiting, you will be fine. For example, a current 2nd-year Booth student told me, among all student recruiting for IB in his class, everyone got a summer internship offer. He personally got 8 offers, and even the student who has the fewest offers got 2. Also, BofA Merrill Lynch had to return to Booth campus after full-time recruiting season to hire more students.
