8/3 TPO 21
Both the professor and the writer remark upon the topic of genetically modified trees. The writer in the passage demonstrates that planting genetically modified trees brings plenty of benefits. The professor, however, casts doubt on the reading part.

First, the writer contends that genetically modified trees are hardier so that they are more likely to survive compared to nature trees. On the contrary the professor in the lecture claims that natural choice would help the species survive the most resistant ones in face of nature disaster. That means all the genetically modified trees would die out if sudden change happened such as climate change or new kinds of pest. In that way, genetically modified trees are no more resistant, which is opposite to the reading passage.

In addition, running counter to the belief in the reading part that genetically modified trees brings more economic benefits, the professor demonstrates that the seeds of genetically modified trees cannot be simply collected and then grow as normal trees. Therefore, the farmers have to pay company for the special seeds each time they plant. Actually, it is not economical any more, which is at odds with the reading material.

Furthermore, the writer explains that genetically modified trees can help protect wild trees from overexploitation, even save some unique or rare species. However, this idea is refuted by what is stated in the lecture. The professor points out that genetically modified trees are aggressive compared to native trees so that it is possible that they will out compete the nature trees in crowded forests consuming more water and other nutrition.

To sum up, the lecture is totally jeopardized by the reading passage

在写作思路方面,可以考虑把抽象的问题具体化,比如说适应性重要,那么是什么原因导致了适应性重要呢?新工作环境、产业发展速度快、经济全球化等等,避免论点之间的重叠就好了。
