伴随着各州开放公共事业的竞争，天然气和电力公司进行了合并，但是和其它公司为利益驱动或者为了扩展自己的服务范围而在公共领域的合并不同，它们的合并是为了建立一个庞大的服务网络来市场化……

呵呵，只是在你的基础上进行了小修改，我觉得大体也就是这个意思。翻译又是另外一门学问了，我这里参考了定语从句的状语译法。
我是在语法区活动较多。有问题互相讨论，指教可不敢当
