这个题我想首先判断but的词性，如果根据意思判断but词性是连词的话，那么C和D就不对，因为C中but后面的部分仔细看是没有句子的，many of them只是个从句，不能算作真正意义上的句子。A项E项but后虽然无句子，但是but前无逗号，这时but可以当做一个带有转折意思的and。 而且C项的them是代词，不能引导句子，E项的whom是关系代词所以能引导句子。
不知我的理解是否正确。

那我真的不觉得是lz思路偏哦。
理解不了but的用法的话就会觉得这句话后半部分没有主语，或者谓语。我也是看懂了but才看明白这句话的意思。
又不是每个人都理解这种用法，回答就回答，还要judge lz一下是什么意思。

弱弱地问一句…为什么b选项中的“there be” wordy and imprecise？可是在这句话中去掉了there be 就无法表达“有”的意思了呀

我觉得不行 Laos has a land area about the same size as Great Britain has 我倒觉得可以
我认为as Great Britain is 不可以补充成as Great Britain's land area 因为前者的be是动词 而后者的's是所有格形式 所以不能那样拓展

您能不能解释一下missing "of"(not "the land area is a size")具体是什么意思
