其中有一个错误选项：with a 5 precent increase  during the first 3 months of this year after falling 这个选项为啥是错的呢？？？困惑我很久的问题就是 什么时候该用独立主格好一些，什么时候该用从句好一些呢？？？区分不出来呀，烦请大家明白的能够给解答一下！谢谢谢谢你们了！！

正确答案为：It is expected that heating-oil prices will rise higher this year than last year's because refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did.
不明白的地方在于，原句哪里错呢？？怎么看出来需要用it做形式主语会好一些呢？？有时候我看到有的题目解析会说这种it形式主语wordy， 想知道啥时候这种形式就wordy 什么时候又是正确的呢？？？

想问的就是 为什么原句不对呢？？错误在哪里呢？? 还有一点困惑的地方在于 第一个破折号之后的they指代的应该是heirloom tomatoes ，如果按照正确答案的来说的话，正确答案已cousins结尾，那么来说的话这个they岂不是会有指代的歧义？？？？知道的牛牛们帮忙解答一下吧 感激不尽！！！

楼上这个赞，大牛，就是觉得全解里面的这个题解释的有问题。去掉中间的分析就清晰了。感觉还是主语重复的问题最重要。

GMAT机经考试难点之破折号的使用  
破折号号基本分为两种：长破折（Dash） 和  短破折（Hyphen）  
其中的长破折号的用法又分两种：single dash  和  double dash  
Hyphen 的用法很简单，是属于词语内部链接，比如 the 15-year-old girl 啊， the man-eater 啊 之类的，表示单词内部的修饰，说明，强调等等。GMAT的SC中不太可能把这个设为考点。  
但是Dash就不一样了，SC中经常遇到Dash的问题。  
Single Dash： 完全可以把其当做冒号（colon）,起到解释说明，强调，补充等等作用。 比如： 
Okay: Always buckle your seat belt; it's the law.   Stronger: Always buckle your seat belt—it’s the law.   
Double Dash： 可以把其当做括号（parenthesis），类似于插入语。很插入语一样，在实际操作的时候，是完全可以把double Dash连同中间的内容一起删除的。

这样我们就发现这道题只能选B选项。 
A的问题是heirloom tomatoes 和 heirlooms 是双主语。 C的问题也同样是。 
D的问题还包括一个逻辑意思有歧义，让人误以为heirloom tomatoes appear less 
appetizing的原因是因为它Grown from seeds saved during the previous year。此外D选项的单句连接处也有问题。 
E的问题也是双主语的问题。

我的看法是

题1. 句子的结构是主句+分句 => the results are evident in its profits, which...
which引导非限定性定语从句，其先行词是profits, 从句谓语用复数，很清楚。那么为嘛不可以用with 呢？
逗号+with， 一般是with 引导的独立主格作伴随状语，伴随前面主句。这里results 和 increase 逻辑有问题，results 怎么可以increase 和decrease呢，如果可以的话，那是不是应该把 "a" 给去掉呢？  
举个例子： Mary was sitting near the fire, with her back towards the door.

题2. 坑爹啊，楼主。你说的正确答案，我怎么看，怎么不像。原因有2个。
第一. it is expected that 在gmat 里不是wordy吗？第二. 最伤的是，比较大大大大的不平行啊，this year 和 last year's不平行，because 后面倒是平行的。
后来查了下原题。不是答案都说是A吗，就是原句，楼主是不是哪里看错了。
但是问题在于，我觉得A也有问题啊。我觉得应该是 Heating-oil prices are expected to be higher this year than (heating-oil prices were) last (year),  because......这里的 助动词were  为什么不补出来呢？

1题 还是不太明白这个The results 怎么和a 5 precent increase不一致了呢？？那以后看 是用独立主格还是用从句 就只能通过逻辑意思来判断吗？？具体的要怎样判断什么时候用独立什么时候用从句呢？？
3题 可以再进一步解释一下什么叫让步状语从句没有主要成分呀？？

1题.with a 5 precent increase  during the first 3 months of this year after falling,是独立名词结构，这里作状语，所以这里逻辑要和主句主语相一致，那么The results显然和 a 5 precent increase无法一致。所以这里 increase 只能作定语来修饰profits。

2题.这题，LZ答案错了，LZ标的正确选项是E选项,是错的,而原句是A选项才是正确的。这题，OG给的答案很模糊，这道题之所以不选E，是因为E把heating-oil prices will rise higher this year than last year's because refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did都涵括为is expected，这种形式很好看，但句意上却大错特错，事实上只有heating-oil prices will rise higher this year than last year's才是expected，而后面的 because refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did实际上是事实，是预测的依据，不需要expected，所以E选项错误。

3题，破折号部分句子对主句的补充说明，所以句首代词原则上也是指代主句主语，从句意上看也是指代主语heirloom tomatoes，因为cousins已经在前面用了round and red 作了充分修饰，所以这里they are often green and striped怎么也不可能是说cousins了。这题指代一点问题都没有，这题的主要错误在于句子结构混乱，让步状语从句部分都是修饰成分无主要部分。
