北美迷途羔羊求分析求定位是否能申MBA

本人女，27，毕业了4年，本科是国内985的英语专业，GPA3.6。工作经验超烂，在一个国内本地小公司做外商投资1年多，然后转到一个律师楼做助理也是1年左右。半年前移民来到美国，开始在华人律师楼混了几个月，现在在纽约一个犹太人的时装公司做purchaser，其实也是打杂。本人希望申请商学院MBA，将来想做International Business或者Marketing，比较感兴趣的是消费品市场。GMAT是4年前考的 710，托福刚刚考了108，口语22。。。

本人深知自己工作经验不够，所以不知能够申到排名几多的MBA呢？NYU的Stern是否有望呢？如果无望，我再工作一年是否有帮助呢？还是应该直接申请CUNY Baruch College好呢？由于家庭的原因，本人希望留在东岸吧。。。

Good to hear from you.First of all, if you are ready to apply now, I would say apply This year! Because as you know, your GMAT is only good for FIVE years. That means if you wait one more year, you will have to retake the GMAT!!! Not so much fun..
With a 3.6 and a 710 you are off to a good start, although it is a bit harder to evaluate precisely without knowing more about your work in depth. If you want to stay on the east coast I'd recommend NYU, Baruch, Columbia, UNC, Fuqua, Johnson, Tepper to start with. There are plenty more schools that might fit you (You might try Kellogg too, even if it is not exactly east coast)

Thank you for your encourage and kindly advice! I am more clear now. You are right. I should follow my passion and try really hard rather than playing safe because it is always all or nothing. Deep in my heart, I always believe that a good school and program can give me more than the ranks or salary can tell. I decide to take a try!  I will follow your suggestion and do a good research for the right school and program for me. I understand that schools in NYC are all strong in Finance. Since my passion is not there, I should find the program strong in marketing and International Biz. Luckily, I am not married and I can leave NYC for better school.

You are 27, I wouldn’t say that you are old. Your work experience is spotty, but I would not let that get you down. You would be surprised how often students at top mba school change jobs. When you apply, you should focus on your passion. You need to develop a very strong story around what you want to do with your MBA, and how your past experience will help you in that goal. While a work related story is the safe way to go, I’m sure the lessons you learned in creating your own product, and helping managing the marketing function of your family investment will make great essay stories.

You are in a good position, because you have good stats. All you need to do is concentrate on your story for the essay, and get a couple of great recommendations.

I would also recommend that you research hard into schools that fit your personality and career goal. You live in NYC, and may have family there; will they support you if you move somewhere else for 2 years? Stern and CBS are great schools, but they are not marketing schools. Your story may not resonant with them as well. Baruch should only be considered if you absolutely plan to stay in NYC.

I don’t believe a top 14 school is out of your reach, IF you have a convincing story. You probably already know this. The value of an MBA drops of significantly after the top schools.

感谢你的建议啊！深深感到迷惘。来到美国生活，为了更好的工作，取得master degree是必须的了。我也知道弱项在于工作经验，所以我想请问 如果我继续在美工作一年，对申请有帮助吗？ 年龄已经不小了，记忆力衰退，所以也心急go back to school....

另外我在国内的时候 还真的试过小规模创业，自己设计过本土的产品销售还上了电视。另外帮助管理推销 家里人投资的农场。。。这些。。不知有无帮助呢。。

都移民了还这么折腾干嘛。。我觉得楼主的工作经验至少表面上看一般，纽大够呛。我记得之前看一个帖子也是，新移民，好像还创业什么的，结果都没录取，所以楼主虽然是绿卡，但是难度还是有的。我觉得申40名前后的比较有把握，35-50之间的比较有把握。35之前的，关键就是要看你怎么去挖掘自己的经历了。但是top16，我觉得可能难度较大。
