我选的是E，但答案是A 能看出来A是平行结构 their use和their substitution对应。 E是因为while用得不对么还有 such as和like在做举例讲时是不是都可以的？？求助中 感谢帮助

D选项的错误是 从句while if substituted for more traditional fertilizers, this substitution....中 substituted 应该对应修饰 this substitution，这样就造成了句意上的重复和表达混乱，所以D选项错误。

还是应该选A。因为E选项中的their指代不清，可以指代前面所有的复数名词，如：fertilizers, problems. A选项很好地避免了这个问题

本句中，主句主语应为an increase，是an increase in their use can create serious environmental problems，是说fertilizers越来越多的被使用造成了环境问题。

E 选项 主句主语则是usage，the increased usage of these fertilizers 是说fertilizers越来越多的用途，这就不合逻辑意思了。

另外，在举例说明中，GMAT提倡用 such as。还有 while 和and 不能互换使用。
