Do you agree ordisagree with the following statement? It is impossible to be completely honest withyour friends.
As far as I’m concerned, I don’t think it possible to be completely honest with my friends for the three major reasons. To begin with, everybody has privacy, it means all of us more or less have something that we don’t want others, even our parents or our best friends, to know, because these things may make us embarrassed or other discomforting feelings. For example, ifyou are a boy but like sleeping with a little bear, it will be very awkward to tell others about it, so it will be very common for you to tell others that you sleep with nothing. In addition, if I’m ill, as is often the case, I will tell my friends that I’m ok when they observe that there is something wrong with me. Because most of my friends are very warm-hearted, if you tell them the truth, all of them will be very worried about my conditions which in some sense will distract their attention on other things, such as their work, study or something else. And most of the illnesses that we get can be cured in few days,so I don’t think it necessary for my friends to know that I’m ill. Last but not least, if one of my friends has got anillness which can never be cured by the present remedy, I won’t tell him or her the truth. Because it seems that whether he or her knows the truth or not, it will be only a few days left. So why don’t we cheat that he or she is healthy so, the following days will be happy and he or she will not worry about the worsening situation of the illness. As a result, I won’t tell the truth under this circumstance.

The lecture apparently disputes the points illustrated in the reading material. According to the passage, there are not enough merits of the certification even some drawbacks. However, yet none of them regard in the eye of the lecture.
First of all, the reading passage points out that American consumers are exposed to so much advertising to they will be numb to it. In contrast, the professor claims that American consumers don't treat all the advertisements equal, they can distinguish the advertisement by the company itself or the advertisement made by the agency, such as this international organization with high reputation. So the lecture totally disagrees with the view made in the reading passage. Second, the passage demonstrates that ecocertified wood will be more expensive and American consumers are strongly motivated by price. In the lecture, the professor admits American consumers are motivated by price alone only when the price is much lower or higher thanthe others, they won't pay attention to a tiny difference, and nowadays they are caring about the environment more and more, so they tend to choose the wood with the certification. Finally, the passage raises theissue that American wood companies sell most of their products in the USA, so it's meaningless to get the certification, the professor opposes to the writer's expectation. He asserts that if the foreign companies have got thecertification while American companies don't get one and consumers are interested in it, the American wood business will be dominated by the foreign companies, content that explicitly contradicts that passage. |
