44. Claim:It is no longer possible for a society to regard any living man or woman as ahero. Reason:The reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually bediminished. Hero is the symbol of society, for it reveals the main idea of the society. Therefore, we choose some outstanding people as our heroes, historical characteror public figure currently. While we gradually find that reputation of the herowe select who is subject to the media will eventually be diminished. Is it stillpossible to set as example living person? My answer is definitively yes, it’spossible and necessary. Although the reputation of the hero is diminished, it does not writeoff the role off the hero. Firstly, we must admit that heroes are all normal humans like everyone of us. We cannot require them in the standard of gods. They can haveweakness and have possibility to do wrong things. But true heroes are acceptedbesides their faults and scandals. Though Clinton is considered to misuse hispower in deceiving public about his undisciplined behaviors, he is still themodel of presidents in American history. Nobody can always be right, we shouldhave tolerance on their small mistakes and recognize their contributions to thesociety ,so that we can give fair comments on them. Secondly, some damages to the reputation are not caused by the faultof the hero himself. So many factors contribute to it. In order to seekprofits, the press makes up news or scandals ignoring of feeling of hero. Suchhappens mostly on entertainment stars. Rivals in the campaign may alsointentionally dig up secrets and maximize the bad effect caused by the little mistake. So we should be aware of the fact that sometimes hero is innocent, we can’t writeoff their role just because of public untrue comments. We need living man or woman to be our hero for they are in the sametime with us. Historical figures also have the effect on guiding us to theright way, but some laws and disciplines have changed, which are not fit to ourcurrent custom. Heroes reveal the highest ideals of a society, so they alsohave to keep pace to times. In a word, I can’t agree with speaker’s statement. We need livingpeople as our heroes, even if their reputation have potential to be diminished. But if we can have more tolerance on them, we may be wiser to learn a hero. And if we can do more to protect heroes’ reputation from being diminishedintentionally, our heroes will be more perfect. |
