这样好了，由于almost like clones in their similarity to one another位于句首，修饰主语members of the cheetah species，那么我们把形容词短语补全应该是members of the cheetah species are almost like clones in their similarity to one another,所以their正是修饰members；而且对于代词的应用，当代词优先于主句的主语出现时，代词优先指代主句主语，并且所有代词只能指代中心词，不能指代修饰成分。

如果变成
members of the cheetah species are almost like clones in their similarity to one another，like后面的成分都是修饰主语的，their指代members就不会存在这么多问题了
可是原句里面，in their similarity介词短语前面没有逗号，即使再做一次，我也会认为这个部分是修饰的clones，their修饰clones

变成sisi说的are like形式让人能很清晰看到修饰对象，一切也能说得通

对这个题奇怪的表达，希望能有更多NN发表一下观点

l如果按照sisi的理解，be like就成了比喻的意思，表示“像...一样”

Manhattan原话：
A prepositional phrase with like can modify a noun or a verb,creating a comparison.
...
note that a like comparison might be metaphorical, not literal.
应该是说like可以作为比喻的意思出现吧？

clones作为可数名词复数是表示“克隆生物”
PO字典原话：N-COUNTA clone is an animal or plant that has been produced artificially, for example in a laboratory, from the cells of another animal or plant. A clone is exactly the same as the original animal or plant


只是这个their怎么就不能指代clones呢？怎么看都觉得their在like结构里面是指代clones的，因为in their similarity 是紧跟在clones后面的，怎么就成了指代members呢？

前面其实当做修饰语成分就好啦。。。不用管是不是比喻呀什么的，咱可以变一下就好看了：members of the cheetah species ARE like clones in their similarity to one another. "in their similarity to one another"作为adv modifier，那么对应主语应该是"members' similarity".

这就是说明为什么主语应该是their的表现，有所指代
或者是把句子变成：In their similarity to one another, members of the cheetah species ARE like clones.，很清晰的状语修饰
