[面试经验] 非典型面试加搞笑followup突袭-acct phd [2012-02-21]

学校名暂时就不说了,不过是我目前最想去的学校。很久以前就听说他家发了面试,后来得知offer都发了,当时没有申请这个学校。但是由于举家今年搬迁,心想doesn't hurt to try. 后来没有想到老师这么nice回复了,迅速安排了面试。面试过程如下:

两个professor在skype那头。上来其中一个就说我一般start from"why do you want to get a phd". 尼玛,这还不好说,傻子都会准备到这个,就说了一通。刚说完,他话锋一转,说我不想重复跟PS相关的东西了,我们谈点别的。就开始东扯西拉问了很多完全没有准备到的问题。现在能想到的有下面几个:你觉得你读phd能想到的困难有哪些?接下来,又问,你觉得你的毕业后的dream school有哪些?你觉得做professor会遇到的困难有哪些?大概都是这些,总之我是没有准备这些,看到的童鞋就准备一下吧,其实还是蛮相关的问题。

然后,我又问了一堆问题,(关于这个问问题,我昨天特意准备了一下,还发了一个帖子,因为我原来能想到的问的问题实在太少,受那天看的一个帖子启发,帖子问一个小时的面试怎么准备,其中一个说多问问题打发时间。我觉得自己主动问问题确实是一个打开话题增加谈话的愉悦感觉的一个好办法。)最后愉快结束。下楼去把小孩接上来洗澡准备睡觉,我本来穿着职业装,换了睡衣。这时悲剧了,那边教授又call我了,我想了一下接还是不接,觉得还是接了。然后我就悲剧的穿着睡衣跟那边讲了几句,让他给我五分钟换衣服先。换了衣服,接下来就跟另一个年轻一点的AP聊了20分钟,据说那个人刚好在隔壁办公室,被抓过来,看到我skype还亮着,就继续了。AP人真诚问的问题也传统,搞笑的是,后来结束他说如果他要把简历发给我看看,我当时心里就在暗笑,尼玛还当是我interview你啊,发简历过来,发就发呗。

后来过了一个小时,看到第一次面试我的老师发了一个email, 带附件的,打开看,发现有8个简历。我也觉得这个学校估计有戏,这个人说接下来一天两天这样给我答复。这个学校我真心想去,如果来offer我就写信去quit掉所有其他学校。

现在面试高峰季节,如果大家遇到面试紧张啊什么的,没有别的办法,多练习,比如,把问题打在一张纸上面,假装是别人问你,然后自己回答。我感觉面到现在已经完全没有紧张感了,想当初第一个interview,因为比较紧张,非常悲剧,非常不像自己,完全失态。后来想了想,觉得有什么怕的,应该找回本来的自己,然后练习得熟练一点就好了。其实这个东西,以后我们上market找工作也同样遇到这些challenge,这种紧张的感觉,而且那时候的challenge也许是放大一千倍的。communication方面,早着手做准备早受益。

10年和guay,weber那篇jae,JAE的invited paper 在各个大学基本是算评副教授的,要花很多时间写的,不是那种disscussion(这种比较水)

写这种东西很容易出名,当然也肯定是你有名气才会让你写。能评上tenure的没有这种paper,也能评上,评不上的,也不会说你有了一偏这种paper就能评上。这样的paper主要的benefit还是能出名。

你去看看armstrong的简历,正正好好就是6篇a。

您已经透露了足够的信息,我敢打包票这个是Wharton,话说您为何不等等Chicago,MIT和Stanford再决定呢?

请原谅我不想在论坛上说学校名字,因为这个学校我基本上会去。而且这个信息其实对未来的申请人没有什么价值的,更有价值的东西是申请过程的一些信息,我有时间总结了再发出来。

其实wharton听起来可能不如上面那三个,但是placement可比他们都好,chicago,你要不是star,一样不行,mit的placement向来也都是不好。

10年和guay,weber那篇jae,JAE的invited paper 在各个大学基本是算评副教授的,要花很多时间写的,不是那种disscussion(这种比较水)

其实wharton听起来可能不如上面那三个,但是placement可比他们都好,chicago,你要不是star,一样不行,mit的placement向来也都是不好。
