真心求教关于offer (PhD in Finance) 的问题

昨天收到了Temple University的offer， 是全奖， 不过因为deadline是要我在2月27日之前回复。 我申请了十几个学校， 但是可能因为老师们推荐信拖了好久（有的昨天才给我交掉， 催了好多次， 我都要疯掉了。。。）， 一个学校都没有答复我。 加上因为女朋友也在申请Doctor的项目， 也还没有offer， 我们想读书的学校能够近一点， 所以我不知道现在应该怎么回复Temple最好。 真心求教各位大牛指点。

That is exactly what you need to do. Use your offer to push other schools in the same tier as Temple.

然后你这边既然有deadline, 其他学校发信去催。如果人家看你有deadline也不理你，多半也就没戏，不用等了。

我觉得这个协议有点太那啥了。。。 就算formally and legally， 这个是OK的， 我也不太可能用这个协议和老师说吧？  毕竟现在答应了以后又反悔不太好做人了。  我写推荐信的老师也给我说你一定什么东西都实话实说， ethics在学界还是很看重的， 要是现在答应了别人学校以后又说不去， 保不齐别人这学校给你其他申请了的学校打个电话， 说这人不靠谱， 有offer可能都给黄了， 更别说以后在学界怎么做人了。
不过这个协议本身倒是挺有意思的， 呵呵。

有些department可能不清楚这个协议， 因为这个协议是在university level上签署的。所以大家还是好好沟通一下。我觉得主要是给了offer担心你不来，又拖着人家不回复。

我昨天也是那样给老师回复的， 说了我女朋友的原因。 而且下周在他们学校也有一个university event， 我已经给老师说我想报名参加， 希望这样可以足够表达我的诚意了吧。  我周五可能还会去NYU去试试运气， 看看有没有什么消息了。  多谢您的指点！

多谢你的回复！ 我是Finance PhD。  感觉竞争可能很激烈， 所以当时申请了很多学校。  Temple确实不是最好的学校（no offense to Temple, just the fact based on rankings), 但是确实是我比较想去的学校之一， 加上女朋友的关系， 所以想留在东海岸。  而且Temple给我的全奖也很不错， 那边的老师去面试的时候也对我非常nice。 如果不是我想去的学校我可能都不care了， 就是因为还是比较care Temple， 所以现在纠结啊。

Acceptance of an offer of financial support (such as a graduate scholarship, fellowship, traineeship, or assistantship) for the next
academic year by a prospective or enrolled graduate student completes an agreement that both student and graduate school
expect to honor. In that context, the conditions affecting such offers and their acceptance must be defined carefully and understood
by all parties.
Students are under no obligation to respond to offers of financial support prior to April 15; earlier deadlines for acceptance of
such offers violate the intent of this Resolution. In those instances in which a student accepts an offer before April 15, and subsequently
desires to withdraw that acceptance, the student may submit in writing a resignation of the appointment at any time
through April 15. However, an acceptance given or left in force after April 15 commits the student not to accept another offer
without first obtaining a written release from the institution to which a commitment has been made. Similarly, an offer by an institution
after April 15 is conditional on presentation by the student of the written release from any previously accepted offer. It is
further agreed by the institutions and organizations subscribing to the above Resolution that a copy of this Resolution should
accompany every scholarship, fellowship, traineeship, and assistantship offer.
