In an effort to reduce their inventories, Italian vintners have cut prices; their wines have been priced to sell, and they are. (A) have been priced to sell, and they are (B) are priced to sell, and they have (C) are priced to sell, and they do (D) are being priced to sell, and have (E) had been priced to sell, and they have
'their' 'they' should refer to the same subject, else it doesnt make sense.
EllipsisAuxiliaries can appear alone where a main verb has been omitted, but is understood:
"I will go, but she will not."
The verb do can act as a pro-VP (or occasionally a pro-verb) to avoid repetition:
"John never sings in the kitchen, but Mary does." "John never sings in the kitchen, but Mary does in the shower."
可以改成 they price their wines to sell, and they do.
比如: contractors demolished the building to keep it from falling down accidently 这句话的中 contractors 就是to keep it from falling... The building was demolished to keep it from falling down accidently.
按照这个逻辑,their wines are priced to sell.
