Hey there—yes, it may be tricky to explain your low essay writing skills.  Have you taken the TOEFL? This is the first place where schools will look to gauge your English abilities.  Next, schools will look at your essays of course.  If your essays and your TOEFL are both strong, you should be just fine here.  If your essays and your TOEFL are weak, then you may have…some problems.  Hope this helps, and we wish you all the luck in the world my friend!

My case is the opposite - GMAT 710+5.5. Do you suggest retaking the exam if I target at top10 US MBA? Thanks!

I hate to say it my friend, because if you were from the US you wouldn’t have to worry about it.  But from China, especially if you are a male, you most likely SHOULD retake the test.  That is, retake the test if you think that there is a good shot you will do better the second time.  If it is better than a 50% chance, then yes.  Last year, the lowest GMAT score from China to be accepted at Booth was…730.  L So 710, for Magic 7 especially, will most likely not do the trick this year…

當UCLA adcom告訴我，我的AWA太低，我問adcom是否TOEFL writing 30 能彌補? 他們說NO......
其中最沒問題的是我的essays，寫得非常好，令人印象深刻!

有没有可能UCLA觉得你essay非常好而AWA比较低，所以。。。

当然每个学校关注的地方肯定都不一样

Whenever you hear people tossing around GMAT scores, chances are they are not referring to the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA). In general, schools barely breathe a word about it and many applicants don’t even take the time to prepare for it.

个人觉得这个应该是整个package中最不重要的吧
只是如果AWA很低，然后Essay又特别有文采，It may raise some eyebrows
