求择校建议，High tech & GM方向

本人背景，male/30/telecom R&D PM (韩企中国研发中心)/ WE 6 yrs/ 北邮本硕
G720, T102 (口语悲催的18)， 准备重考

申请12秋入学的
以后还想在high-tech混，往GM and company strategy发展
经过看板上牛人的帖子以及和板上牛人chat以后，list一些学校
Kellogg
Tuck
Darden
Ross
UCLA
USC
Emory (有米哈哈)
准备冲击一下UCB, MIT

选校preference:
对finance和consultant 兴趣不大，not my career goal
对于program招的人数多少没有特别的偏好
不想去过于aggressive的氛围
需要no-cosign loan (至少需要贷学费，自己可以pay生活费)
case 和 lecture的比例也无偏好,  case多点也好，可以强制我学习英语
location无特别偏好，能去加州当然好，但考虑到自己的BG不是很强，不对此做特别要求，top20都行

总之硬件是: top20, GM & high-tech, tuition covered by no-consign loan

两轮准备申请8家左右.
请大家给点择校建议和意见！ 感谢！

Could I set SG as rotation leadership program in high-tech corporations?
Is it too late for a 34yrs old guy(when I graduate from b-school) to join this kind of programs?

Or what's the typical age of the guys who join this kind of leadership program?

For the "fit" issue around b-school selection , would you plz share any opinion?

From my point, I can only select the school by my career goal, by the chat with alumni and by the info from web/bbs.
But, these info are overwhelming and even inconsistent sometimes.

As a fresh MBA applicant , how could I identify the fit efficiently?

Hello my friend, happy to offer up some basic thoughts here.  Your TOEFL is a bit low as you know, and the GMAT isn’t a stand out.  But both scores are solid—while you wont have a great shot at top ten schools (without a stronger TOEFL especially) the idea of top 20 is certainly possible for you.  USC, Emory, Darden, Ross…these places will be within striking distance for you.  I would also consider UT Austin and Carnegie Mellon, since both have great focuses on IT.  Carnegie Mellon’s specialty is actually converting IT guys into managers.  Hopefully this helps—and good luck!

Hey there!  You don’t need to worry about this—all schools need ALL kinds of people.  So for example, Kellogg is known for marketing.  CBS is known for finance.  But Kellogg needs finance people!  CBS needs marketing people!  And the woman who heads up marketing at CBS is pretty important, I assure you.  Kellogg’s finance department is among the best in the country!  It is of course a top school, one of the best in the world.  So yes, you do need to explain that you would fit in well with the people at Kellogg (they all do team projects, love each other, teamwork etc.) and you do need to explain why you wanna be in NYC—fit IS important.  rove to the school that you DO want to go there.  But ultimately, there is no need to change your career goals—you are who you are—your best application will be very similar for ALL schools.  Hope this helps…

Hello there.  Yes of course I am still here!  I will be here trying to help as many folks as possible, for as long as the generous folks at CD allow us to stay.  J  And no, to be 34 doesn’t mean that you cannot get into one of these programs upon graduation.  You will simply need to address the perception that you are too old—as you network, in your cover letters, in your resume—since you know that this issue will make it harder, you will simply need to try harder.  But it is possible my friend—in fact, a guy I know from business school (33 y/o at graduation) got into a program with a major credit card company.  Ive seen it done dude, so don’t lose hope!  J  Let me know what more we can do to help, and good luck!

知道自己擅长的和欠缺的，接受那些不可改变的，努力去提升那些可改变的，是真正的成熟。这也是学校希望看到的，也是决定你录取与否的关键。

多去跟各个学校的校友还有adcom甚至career office的人聊，甚至打电话到那些公司的HR部门咨询。我想你应该有不少的校友或同学在这些公司，他们也能提供帮助的。有些看上去似乎不会有用的cold call，说不定就会为你人生这么大的选择和投资提供不一样的信息。

你有多用心，你就离你梦想的学校和职业道路有多近。加油！

LS is not correct.

High tech companies have such program too. But they will give only a few seats to selected schools. For example, Qualcomm, which I believe to be a dream company for LZ, recruits 1-2 people at Haas.

LZ's background is mainly with CT other than IT. CT players such as Ericsson, Cisco and Nokia have such programs too.

And your age will never be a disadvantage. Those companies I mentioned DO care your industry expertise MUCH MORE than your MBA degree.

韩哥，我悄悄的插一句，high-tech这种项目比较少哦，我印象中只有AMD有，其他的比如Google, M$, Dell, Tencent等都不是rotation program。
这种program在化工，医药，重型机械等行业比较多。
