前辈们说的我能理解，也非常认同。此外，我还有一点点想法：

D中的awkward有没有可能是因为a protection of warriors本身有问题？我的意思是，warriors 是人，warriors 是否可以有protection这个属性？

可以说 a method of sth,  但可以说 a method of sb吗？

期待有人回复。。。。

这里不是动名词，是现在分词。

还有个问题：此题中的正确选项C：protecting，此时的protecting是什么状语呢？好想动名词做不了目的状语啊

(1) 如果要表达“作为。。。”时，as......短语一般有三种：用在句首，比如“As a mother, I do this.”，用在句尾，但前面不加逗号，比如“I do this as a mother.” ，或者作为插入语，比如“I, as a mother, do this.”；并且，这里as后面的内容应该和要修饰的内容逻辑上一致。
因此如果把as开头的介词短语放在句末，前面加上逗号，修饰shields或者items，是一种awkward。
另外，从内容上来说，用as a protection of...来修饰也是imprecise的，因为shields或者items本身不是作者想要表达的protection of worriers，作者想说的是这种做法是一种protection。因此，用protecting来表达这种做法的“功能结果”（某培训机构老师用语）是最好的。
(2) 名词protection比动词啰嗦，因此wordiness，不解释。
(3) protection用来指向items也是awkward的，因为它是单数，而items是复数。
