MS Maths (专业排名15左右)
MS Stat (专业排名10左右)
MA Econ (专业排名20-30名左右)
MS Applied (Agro) Economics (专业排名10左右)

Thanks!

check the courses of the math master. I know a lot math master can take applied math courses in finance and econ. if that's the case, then go for it.
stats would be more useful for empirical study. if your friend is interested in empirical study, then go for stat master
applied econ, not considered

interesting... this is a new perspective since I've been browsing through the finance PhD forums and it seems math carries a lot of weight., aside from research experience, and RL.
Could  you tell me what you think is the most important factor then?

thanks for the reply.
1, is the good PhD programs (especially in finance and accounting) require very high math background? (maybe I used the wrong word "theory")

No...

do not put too much emphasis on math,   unless you are going to MIT or stanfard.
sorry to say that, I guess columbia is overvalued as a whole... They are damn empirical.

hehe, it is kind of a risk to take. so he's reading maths books to see if he can pick up his math talent in high school...
Question: if columbia stat is very shui, can it get you into a good PhD program? cuz everybody knows how shui they are...

2, if 1 is true, then what will help more than a master in math?

tell you what, only 1% or less people is capable of doing theory.   btw, if doing theory, a math master will not help too much.
