Ph.D. Student Position in Information Systems
Position - One Ph.D. student position, starting in Fall 2021
- A research assistant position is also available for the 2020-2021 academic year, if the admitted student seeks to start developing research capabilities prior to starting the Ph.D. program.

Location - Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong
- The Ph.D. student is expected to reside in Hong Kong for the duration of the Ph.D. program.
Description - The Ph.D. student will join a research team working on high-impact business and societal problem domains including economics of digital innovation and entrepreneurship, human-AI interaction, digital technologies in financial market, and others
- The student will participate in research projects, which combine rigor and relevance in formulating and solving problems, generate papers for top academic journals, and inform policy and managerial practice.
- The Ph.D. student will:
· Receive mentoring and training on conducting high-impact research by working closely with Professor Zhitao Yin and other team members: · Professor Arun Rai · Editor-in-Chief of MIS Quarterly · Permanent Regents' Professor and Harkins Chair Professor at J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University · Professor Sean Xin Xu · Senior Editor of MIS Quarterly · Associate Dean and Professor at School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University · Develop the knowledge and skills to formulate innovative research ideas in the problem domains · Learn cutting-edge data science approaches including econometrics, machine learning, text mining, and network analysis · Conduct research in collaboration with the team or independently · Engage with academics and practice through presentations and teaching
Requirements - Motivated to develop as a scholar to generate innovative insights through entrepreneurial research activities and engagement with both academics and practitioners
- Interested in and familiar with news/knowledge in technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, economics, and/or business strategy
- Strong foundations in mathematics, statistics, and econometrics
- Experience in data collection, data cleaning, exploratory analysis, and causal analysis
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, Stata, and/or SAS
- Comfortable with English working environment with strong verbal and written skills
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Economics, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, and other related areas
