The Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI) is offering a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management under the MIT Malaysia Supply Chain Management (MSCM)
Program. The MSCM Program is based on the top-ranked MIT Supply Chain Management Program offered by the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics since 1998.
New batch of students start annually in August.

Who should apply to the MSCM program?

The MSCM program is designed for students who have work experience and have good quantitative skills, including some college-level calculus and probability/statistics. However, you need not have a degree in engineering to apply. Classroom and personal interaction is enhanced by varied experiences in the student body. MSCM Admissions strives to build a class with diverse backgrounds such as finance, information technology, management, marketing, and sales. We encourage students from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines to apply. If you have questions about whether you would be a good candidate for the MSCM program, please contact us directly.

What if I have little or no work experience?

While students with 3 to 8 years of work experience are in the best position to leverage the MSCM program, we have admitted students with less experience than this, including some directly from undergraduate studies.

Is the Masters degree offered as a distance learning program?

No. At the moment, only Full time Masters degree is being offered by MISI, plans are in place, however, to offer a Part-time Masters degree in Supply Chain Management in early 2013. There are no immediate plans to offer this degree via the Internet. MISI also offers multiple short executive programs on a variety of logistics and supply chain management topics every year.

Does the program allow any full-term exchanges with the Cambridge and Zaragoza campuses? For example if it could be possible to take the IAP and the Spring terms in full at Zaragoza and Cambridge.

There is no full-term exchange between MISI and MIT or Zaragoza programs. The January/IAP session when the MISI students will be at the MIT campus for upto 4 weeks is the only opportunity for MISI Students to attend MIT as part of this program.

How much does the MSCM program cost?

MSCM tuition is set by MISI each year. The tuition for the 2014/2015 academic year is RM85,000 plus student life fee, medical insurance, and living expenses. Living expenses vary, depending on your living style and whether students live alone, with roommates, or have a family. Currently, a minimum budget of RM2,000 per month is recommended for single students.

Is financial help available for MSCM students?

The MSCM program is designed as a self-funded program. However, MISI does provide a select few qualified students with full and partial MISI Fellowship financial award. In addition to this, there are also some industry sponsored scholarships available to qualified students. To indicate your interest in the MISI Fellowship financial award, please indicate the same in the box provided on the MSCM Application form. Special consideration will be given to women applicants for MISI Fellowship award. An essay is required when applying for MISI Fellowship award while for the Industry Scholarship, students will need to meet the stipulated criteria, which may include a bond requirement.

What are the criteria for financial award from MISI?

MISI offers the MISI Fellowship financial award to qualified students. The fellowship financial award is based on merit which includes the overall assessment of the application including the GMAT Scores and submitted essays. There is no bond for fellowship holder. In addition to this, limited loan opportunities are also available based on merit and need.

What is MISI’s Masters Class profile for the class of 2013?

What is MISI’s strategy to help graduates find jobs after the program?

Student placement is a key priority for us. We want our students to be employed in leading positions in dynamic organizations around the world. Our constant effort to grow the list of organizations who we engage with (please see the list above) is underpinned by this need to extend our students world class opportunities. In many ways, our task is made easier by the rapid economic growth in the Asia region coupled with the fast maturing supply chain domain. As a result of these two drivers, we are witnessing a spurt in job opportunities for qualified SCM professionals in Asia. As it is, a lack of quality supply chain talent in the region is a documented challenge faced by the companies operating in the region. Our program addresses this problem of quality and preparedness directly and is designed to stand out as the talent provider of choice.

In the initial stages, MISI placement team will work closely with the experienced MIT CTL’s career and placement services to ensure that our students are afforded the best possible support and guidance in finding the right opportunity. In addition to exploring the local and regional job market, MISI students will have the opportunity to be interviewed by companies in the US while visiting MIT during the month of January.

What are the admissions requirements for the MSCM program?

All application materials must be received by scheduled deadline. In addition to completing the MISI Graduate Application Form, applicants must provide all academic transcripts, an up-to-date résumé, three letters of recommendation, and GRE or GMAT scores. (The Institute code to use for the GRE forms is 3514; the department code is 4313. For the GMAT forms, the code to use is X5X-QS-17.) Students whose first language is not English must demonstrate competency in English.

Which test is preferred, GMAT or GRE?

Both the GMAT and GRE General tests are acceptable for application to the MSCM program. Most applicants take the GMAT test.

Must I take the IELTS?

Students whose native language is not English must demonstrate competency in English by taking the IELTS. Further information can be found on the IELTS website at: http://www.ielts.org/default.aspx

Does the MSCM program accept the TOEFL?

We prefer the IELTS as it will enable the admissions committee to better assess your preparation for the program.

Where can I get an application?

The MSCM Application form is available through the Admissions page. You may reach us by phone at +6 03 7831 8684 (Malaysia) or +1 617-253-6538 (USA) You can also email us at mscm@misi.edu.my

Does SCM require a deposit?

Candidates offered admission to the MSCM program will be required to submit a nonrefundable deposit of RM5,000, if they wish to secure a spot in the program. Information on payment methods will be made available at a later date.

Are there any recommendations for filling out the application form?

Be sure to emphasize work experience and signs of increasing responsibility in your professional résumé. We encourage you to include 3 letters of reference from a mix of both at least one academic and at least one work related, if applicable.
