2(Q2). To understand the most important characteristic of a society, one must study its major cities.
The author claims that in order to understand the characteristic of a society, one must study its major cities. As far as I am concerned, I partially agree with the author. I concede that the major cities of any nation can be served as the typical paradigm when one try to study the characteristics of a society, however, total ignorance of other cities and rural areas will lead to misunderstanding.
Admittedly, the major cities can provide much information for one to assist his research on understanding the most characteristic of a society. To begin with, major cities are usually the center of the public, economics, industry, culture and education, etc. Thus, one can take a variety of perspective from different aspect to understand the characteristics. What’s more, some major cities, such as Shanghai, China, are the concentration of people all over the country, and in this way such major cities can be regarded as the miniature of the whole society, which is beneficial for one to carry on his study. Owing to the reasons mentioned above, the major cities of a nation will receive more attention than any other city in that country. For supporting examples one need look no further than the international city, New York, where its residents come from all over the world, consisting of different languages, religions, mores and value systems. Possibly, it is just the diversity of its residents and cultures that New York is attracting more and more people to gather there, resulting in the ever-increasing researches on the characteristics of itself.
Given that the major cities of a nation can mirror the most important characteristic of a society, however, it is unilateral to analysis the characteristics merely by understanding its major cities. The people who adhere to this view may advance their reasons as follows. Firstly, with the globalization, some major cities all over the world have become much similar to each other. For instance, Paris and London are the two capitals of its own country, which are globalized and modernized so much that they share much in common and their distinct characteristics are about to vanish. Secondly, with the dramatic speed in increasing resident population, many side effects may come into being which largely obstruct the understanding of the characteristics of its society. Moreover, in order to present the best, the governors of the major cities may shadow its ill characteristics purposely while present the precious facet of its cities.
Last but not the least, some characteristics should be investigated not confined to those major cities, such as the living conditions of people and the education degree the average people education and so forth. To understand such features mentioned above, more information and in-depth investigation is needed in rural areas and towns.
Overall, while the most focuses are placed on the major cities of a nation, we cannot overlook the significance of other seemingly unimportant cities. Otherwise, one cannot understand the most important characteristic of a society all-sidely. 花了35分钟,求大神、G友狠拍!多给意见!谢谢各位! |
