182,Should pets be treated as family members?
Pets have existed as human's friends ever since the age of cavemen. Why do people raise pets? People with different backgrouds have different reasons. Some are seeking for love , some are doing this just for fun, and some even raise them for a living. However, why some people go as far as treating their pets like family members has always been a mystery to me. I, who have raised a dog for several years, would never let it go to my bed, or stay all day long together with me. To be frank, I regard these sort of behaviors and habits as weird. First of all, it could be a severe danger for people to live too close to animals, who invariably carry a lot of bacterias and viruses, no matter how many times they take bath a day. What is more, pets occasionally touch their master's foods, water, or cups ,.etc. which people carelessly take or use. A recent research by my college has revealed that people living with one or more pets have a much greater chance to get allergic than those who live without animals. the more pets one owns, the more possibly one gets ill. In addition, treating an animal as a family member can make other people uncomfortable, or to some extent, humiliated. I will never forget the experience of visiting my aunt liu, who was living with her puppy alone. During the talk, she pulled our topic back to her dog every 3 minutes, showing to me how clever and friendly he was. I got more and more impatient with the so called conversation, and when she began to feed the puppy with the chocolate i gave her as present, I realized that I had to leave before driven mad. I respect anyone's right to love his/her pet, but it is really unbearable to be treated as less important than a pet.
Furthermore, treating pets as family members is time-consuming, and may distract people's concentration on more important issues. Don't you think some pet-lovers should revert their attention from their pets to the work, the society, or just their relationship with neighbours? Each time I saw the news about how luxury a life some millionaire-pet was living, a stong feeling of sadness and irony would beat me. Being aware of the fact that millions of people need help from us more than these animals, some aliens are still wasting time on deciding which style of jeweries they should buy for pets !
All in all, I do not see any plausible reason on loving a pet exaggeratedly, and I believe that treating a pet as a family member is not only dirty , but also humiliating and meaningless.
