Main idea: although the basic courses has their advantages, they should not be required to take for every student.

TS1: To learn basic science courses has their advantages.

TS2: However, not all the students are suitable to learn science courses.

TS3: Whether a student needs to take the science course should depend on the necessity of his major or the interest of the student.

我还真不知道US的情况，在中国，不同的大学，规定也不一样。

7.7当时我是这样写的，I think it is necessary.

R: basic knowledge-undergraduate level students must obtain some ideas about science

E: the earth goes around the sun…(写完了才发现我忽略了中学小学教育，不管了)

R：science method is helpful

E:假设，试验，证明，提出理论，再试验，再验证……方法广泛应用于各行各业（社会科学）

R：liberal arts education的需要

E：人类知识结构的重要组成部分，多少祖先的奋斗，后人应该要对他们的努力有所了解（彻底的nonsense，我自己都觉得跟第一点重复了）

我在网上搜了一下，basic science courses是每个学科都有的，差不多是每门学科的入门课程吧。但没找到文科一类的，就难在这里了，是不是文科也有，
