117. Some people choose friends who are different from themselves. Others choose friends who are similar to themselves. Compare the advantages of having friends who are different from you with the advantages of having friends who are similar to you. Which kind of friend do you prefer for yourself? Why?
There is a controversial issue over what kind of friends should people choose?Depending on different personal experiences,personality types and emotional concerns,we may find that some people choose friends who are different from themselves;others,on contrast,choose friends who are similar to themselves.The choice,nevertheless,is not easy to make.However,from my part of view,I would agree that the later one is more advisable and my arguements for this point are listed as follows.
The essential reason can be seen by everyone is that it is more easier to work a friendship with someone who is similar to ourselves.The more same interests we have,the more topics we can talk about and the more easily we can keep our friendship.For instance,two people watching footbal game in the stadium can be friends easily since they are similar in that they are both football fans.In contrast,it is hard to imagine a big basketball fan hanging out with someone who does not even know who Michael Jordan is.
Another reason for my propensity is that there is more fun while spending time with a friend who is similar to ourselves.Since two people have a lot of interests and hobbies in comon,they usually look forward to and enjoy the same thing.For example,two friends who both like fashion can spend the whole day for shopping together;two friends who are both good at tennis can go to play tennis all day long,and two friends who enjoy watching movies can go to the cinema together all the times.Therefore,we can get more fun with a friend who is similar to ourselves.
Last but not the least,it is more efficient when we work or study with a friend similar.Since two friends are similar,they will have little trouble at communicating with each other which is a particularly important issue in working and studying.This significant point,however,is often not noticed by most people and,accordingly,is unconsciously overlooked.
Of course,I agree that there may be a couple advantages to make friend with someone who is different from ourselves.For example,we can broaden our sights and knowleages,learn many different ways to solve problems and get many precious experiences that we never had.However,I still believe that the disadvantages far outweigh them such as little topics that we both be interest in,little time we can spend together and the possibility that we may argue some thing strongly when we have opposite ideas.
To sum up,taking into account of all the factors presented above,I strongly commit the notion that it is more sagacious to choose a friend who is similar not only because we can work the relationship more easily and longer but also because we can be happier and more efficient.
