托福作文185篇 :

第3 Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improvedthe way people live?
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Since preparing food nowadays takes fewer efforts than before, fast foodhas become prevail in many people’s lives and gradually change their habits. The old days when family got together having a meal over a dinner table andtalking for a long time have gone. More and more people, especially youngsters, prefer to eat faster. As a matter of fact, fast-eating habit, in a longerprocess, affects people in many aspects.
First of all, this fast-eating habit fit the need of people in bigcities who live their lives on the go. Businessmen, for instance, travel a longdistance everyday to meet their potential clients, to take a meeting or toupdate some data of their sales rates. Thus, they hardly have time to cook ameal at home or eat lunch for 1 hour. Instead, they would grab a piece ofhamburgers or pizza for lunch or dinner and then continue his fast-paced work.Students, similarly, need to spend a great number of time reading, doinghomework and writing essays. In this case, they prefer to save time by shorteningthe time for breakfast or lunch so as to study for longer.
Secondly, the eating habit of people change significantly. Because fastfood is convenient, people become lazier to prepare food themselves. Eventhough many of them are busy at all, they would rather to buy some fast food inKFC or have a fast dinner in Chinese restaurants than buy meat and vegetablesfrom the market and cook for themselves. Teenagers, in particular, make up alarge part of consumers for those easy preparing food. As a result, more andmore people join the campaign of eating fast food, leaving the kitchen useless.
Moreover, eating fast, as a consequence of the food being easier toprepare, has adversely affected the health of people. Fast food containexcessive fat, sugar and salt, which contributes to various health problems. Those who eat fast food for long have a higher risk of suffering from obesity, because fast food, say French fries, is usually rich in oil. In addition, fastfood with too much oil and salt would also do harm to people’s stomach, for thereason that they are hard to digest and contain less nutrition.
Last but not least, if people get so used to taking fast food as theirdinner, they are no longer able to enjoy the leisure time eating healthy andnutritious food. In another words, their quality of life are lower than before.
Tosum up, with the convenience to prepare a meal, fast food becomes the mostfavorable choice for most people in recent years. Consequently, people go tofast food restaurants more often than go back home for a meal. Their eatinghabit changes and they are becoming fatter and less healthier than they used tobe. What’s worse, more people lose the joy of taking some time off to enjoy adelicious dinner with their family and friends. For me, the disadvantages offast pace of eating surpass its advantages.

4 It has been said, "Not everything that is learned is contained inbooks." Compare and contrast
knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In youropinion, which
source is more important? Why?
As the Information Time has come, we areprovided with a large variety of means to learn. Books, video tapes, televisionprograms or simply our personal experience can bring us to a world ofknowledge. Compared with those indirect methods to learn, like reading booksetc, learning by experiencing everything ourselves is regarded much preferableand more effective.
Tobegin with, only by experiencing things by ourselves can we understand theknowledge directly. Books share other people’s theories and research resultsfrom their experiences, but what a pity, that kind of knowledge is notyours---it belongs to others. In contrast, we can gain our personal knowledgeby trying to do things by ourselves. A seven-year-old kid who want to learnriding a bike would have to try riding himself. It is his great efforts and thefailure he can learn from, not the instruction about how to ride, that teachhim a right way to ride. How can he acquire the skills of keeping balance, getting started, and stopping the bike simply by reading a book about ridingtips?
Inaddition, books only give us the final result of others’ experience while ourown experience can offer us more opportunities to explore the process byourselves. It is neglected in books that how a theory comes up, how a certaintechnique is invented, and how things work out in that way. However, if weexperience the whole process of a theory, we will be able to figure out whatthe theory is taking about, why it exists and how it works. Nothing is moreeffective in learning than  having a try.
Moreover, knowledgegained from experience lasts for longer in mind than indirect knowledge frombooks. Scientists, after doing a research on human memory, indicate thatactions can strengthen the impression of things we want to remember, and alsothose memories will not completely perish through ages. In that case, ourpersonal experience help us remember some knowledge by doing experiments overand over again. The repeated process reinforce that knowledge, making it unforgettableand unique.
Generally speaking, the advantages of experience outweigh those of books. Our experience, a directsource of knowledge, make it possible for us to explore the world around by ourown. Furthermore, we can remember knowledge for long by trying things out, instead of recalling tough theories in books.

5 A company has announcedthat it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss
the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community.Do you support or
oppose the factory? Explain your position.
Nothingis more controversial than the issue of a factory being built near ourcommunity in a few years. Opinions are divided into two. Supporters claim thatonce the factory is built, more jobs will be available, since it needs a largenumber of workers to get started. Moreover, as the factory is just across thestreets, it will be convenient for those who work there. More working opportunity, along with higher employment rates, contribute to our social prosperity in along term. However, those who oppose this idea point out that factory will onlybring us numerous troubles, such as air pollution, disturbing noises, poisonouswaste and a threat to our farming land as well as our community. For myperspective of view, I dislike the ideas of building a factory nearby. Here aremy personal reasons.
Firstly, I prefer to live in a place where I can breathe fresh air, eathealthy food and get close to nature. Since I grow up in a very beautifulcountryside where bird’s singing wakes me up every morning, every family growtheir plants, and trees can be seen everywhere, I place great importance to ahealthy environment. However, the new factory will totally ruin my dreams bybringing smelly and poisonous waste to our community, producing dusts and gasesand taking up our community land so that we no longer have enough space foractivities like dancing and barbecue.
Secondly, not only those sick and old people need a better environmentto live in, but so do kids and pregnant women. Statistic shows that old peoplemake up 40 percent of our community population while nearly 5 percent are thepregnant, 15 percent of kids. All of them require a pleasant environment tolive. Without clean air, kids and the sick ones have a higher risk of sufferingfrom respiratory diseases ike asthma or lung disease. Also, waste dumped fromthe factory can poison the vegetables we eat meanwhile damage the water wedrink.
Thirdly, though this factory will lead to our booming society, in somecases, it can also do harm to the health of its workers. It is said that Appleassembling workers are far from healthy and even risk their lives to work infactory, simply because the factory release an excessive amount of deadlyparticles. These tragedy would be displayed again if the factory does not takeany action to improve its working environment.
Inall, the benefits of a healthy environment can be superior to the advantage ofhigher employment rates. I would rather live a desert suburban without anypollution than being poisoned by a factory even though it is convenient towork.

7 How do movies or television influence people's behavior? Use reasons andspecific examples to
support your answer.
Needless to say, television has become a necessity without which we cannot live. Children enjoying watching cartoons at dinner time, while adultsprefer sports events or news reports instead. Similarly, people from all walksof lives rely on television for different reasons. But, we may wonder, whatchanges does television bring to us? Here are my opinions.
Television,  unlike other means ofcommunication  like newspaper and  radio, introduce a more comprehensiveunderstanding of the world  in forms ofonline shows, video clips and programs. Those who are longing to travel to countrieslike America, can have a breathtaking view of the Rocky Mountain by followingthe tourism program’s helicopter high above in the air. Also, it is advisablefor new-wed couples to watch programs about cooking since they present themwith many specific ways to prepare a wonderful meal. For example, they will gaindeep understanding of how to make Italian noodles by preparing materials, boiling noodles, putting special sauce on them all by themselves. These stepsfor cooking can all be obtained by watching TV.
Inaddition, we no longer waste our time standing in front of our computer notknowing what to do. Television save us this trouble by giving us various updatedprograms meticulously selected by directors. Officials who are tight up withtheir busy schedules may enjoy a leisure time watching NBA; students, after daysof study, are prone to watch entertainment programs for relaxation; and what’smore, news reports can meet the needs of businessmen who are desperate to know thecurrent situation of the investment market.
Furthermore, there is no doubt that television never fail to present us withthe most immediate news about what is going on around us. When watching thecampus shooting report in the air, we can feel the fear and panic of the victimsthere. Television serves as a mirror to reflect the real events in front of oureyes so that we acted like passerby to watch the whole process of this event asif we are already in the crime scene.
Toconclude, television is not only a vivid way to present all aspects of theworld to us, but also a good way for relaxation as well as personaldevelopment. It changes our ways of living and thus contributes to our bettercomprehension of culture, policy, education, economy and things like that. Wecan not imagine our life without television.

12.Many people visit museums when they travel to new places. Why do youthink people visit
museums? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Whenthe holiday season comes, the local museums will be bombarded with visitorsfrom all over the world. Why are museums so fascinating that visitors are allheading there without much consideration? Personally, I would say it is theitems exhibited in the museums that makes them irreplaceable and attractive.
Museums are the places where the most valuable works of local people gettogether. They reveal the cultural values and social development of one certainplace. Thus, museum offer an excellent opportunity for travelers to betterunderstand a place in a time-saving way. For example, for those who go toparis, the Louvre is place they shall never miss. People entering that museumcan not move their eyes from Da vinci’s masterpiece Mona Liza, which representsthe spirit of the Renaissance. Also, if you want to know how Chinese peopleduring World War Two fight against the Japanese invaders, you’d better go tomilitary museum to see the weapons they used, the cannon they made, and the equipmentthey got at that time.
On theother hand, museum can serve as a place for entertainment. Visitors interestedin oil painting will get beside themselves with thrill when they see the VanGogh’s original painting in an art museum. Children, meanwhile, may be excitingto see all kinds of toys and colorful dolls in a toy museum. People who sufferfrom stressful work will find an outlet in a wine museum by tasting a largevariety of wines there.
Nomatter where your destination is and what is your purpose for traveling, thereis one thing you shall never forget—go to the local museum to have a look.Since museums illustrate the human achievement by presenting as many historicalrelics as possible, we can easily know what defines the place we visit and whatkind of life people there prefer to choose. Even though you are not a fan ofart or history, it doesn’t matter. No one can refuse the wonderful experiencewandering into a world of beauty. That is what museums bring to us.

19 Should governments spend more money on improving roads and highways, orshould
governments spend more money on improving public transportation (buses, trains, subways)?
Why? Use specific reasons and details to develop your essay.
Transportation remains to be a great concern for governments whenconsidering whether they should put more money on highways or publictransportation. Though an increasing number of people nowadays own their privatecars, making long-distant travel much easier and popular, publictransportations rank high if the majority need is taken into account. To put itdifferently, I would say that public transportations deserve more improvement.
Improvement on public transportations is greatly required to solve thecurrent problem of most people living in the cities. As a growing demand tobuild a ecofriendly society, private cars are not encouraged for the majormeans of transportation while buses or subways are most recommended to use. Therefore, we can see a booming numbers of people push through the crowd to geton a small bus, or a long line of citizens desperately waiting for a latesubway to come. If the public transportations are getting better, these severproblems will be solved sooner or later. It is essential for governments todevote more money on public transportation to renew the facilities and alsoimprove the efficiency of public transports.
Admittedly, people need better roads or highways to travel long-distancefor certain purposes. However, compared to public transportations, roads aswell as highways have been well-developed. Especioully in big cities on thecoastal areas of China, governments have already spend excessive money onlong-distance transportations. In that case, it is also an urge for governmentto focus on the urban transportation too.
Furthermore, the situation of public transportation can serve as avisible indicator of how much government care about their own citizens. If youtravel to Hong Kong, you will be impressed by their well-organized citystreets. People wait patiently for the green light, while passengers line up ina great order to get on the bus. Walking on the bay of Victoria, you can feelthe serenity of the city for there is no crowded people frustrating your perfecttrip. How can you dislike this city with such good transportations? That is whythe city public transportations are important.
Tosum up, government should show concerns of the current need of their citizensby improving public transportations. Whether you are a student, traveler orbusinessman, buses or subways are still your daily friend when it comes togoing out.

第38 Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in thepresent. Do you agree or
disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
People often say, “Learn from the past, live for today and hope fortomorrow.” Is it really true that the knowledge gained from our past is always beneficialto our present? Opinions are divided. As far as I am concerned, thiscontroversial topic should be discussed case by case.
When it comes to personal development, especially about teenage growingup, past experience affects us living in the present significantly. Failure isthe mother of success. In this case, the more mistakes we have made, the morenew knowledge we will get from them. Thus, success is within reach. Studentsbenefit a lot from their mistakes on their previous exams. How could theyrealize what they did wrong if they didn’t check out their mistakes? Moreover, for children who got sick after eating spoiled food, they will never forgetthis painful experience and avoid making the same mistakes again. As the sayingputs,”Better not to ignore the past but learn from it instead. Otherwise, history has a way of repeating itself.” It is true when we talk about growingup.
However, in the Information Age, many aspects of our society seem toreject this rules. Considering economic management. As the world changes rapidlynowadays, people replace their old thoughts with new ones more frequently thanever before. That is to say, the old-fashioned ways to manage a company or eventhe economic system in the country are no longer useful. Those who still adoptthe old method to manage their company will face bankruptcy sooner or later. While those with creative minds can easily get used to the fierce competitionsamong all the companies.
Asfor fashion, learning from the past is regarded as a big joke. Will CK adopt theout-of-date ideas of classical dressing, say T-shirts with jeans, in America? Isit possible for Channel designers to reuse the old types of perfumes that Diorhave presented in the previous season? Have you ever seen Taylor Swift puttingon the Middle Age costumes while attending a fashion party? She will look likea dinasoure to us instead of fashion celebrity.
Withall the discussions above, we can safely conclude that whether learning from thepast contributes to our presence depends on specific situation. If we aretalking about individual development, history is a must for us to learn from.If we focus on economic management, fashion or things like that, past experiencemay somehow affects our present adversely. In that case, we have better utilizeour past experience to avoid same mistakes and meanwhile never contend with thestatus quo, just move on.
