答案是b,原因是approximate是形容词,应该换成approximately副词来修饰句子的.为什么呢?我感觉approximate做形容词修饰846,000 square miles有什么不对的呢,然后后边doubling引导的分词从句来解说这个miles的.请高人讲解,谢谢大家了...

修饰数词不会用形容词。这里不是修饰句子

boubling。。。做主语the L  purchase的定语
