Just ran into your post. We are from the same undergrad, and I probably know you
I came to Canada right after my graduation and I finished my masters in U of Toronto. I am working in the financial industry now.
I don't know why you are so interested in Canada. Maybe you have a PR or are thinking about immigration. I just want you to know two things if you haven't made your mind yet:
1, UBC or SFU are good schools, but job opportunities are very limited there. You are almost guaranteed to move to other provinces like GTA to find a job. I have many friends/colleagues from UBC or SFU.
2, Canada is only a place to live, and only very few places like Vancouver or Toronto are suitable for living. If you want to have a great career and want to become an industry leader or something, DO NOT come to Canada. A significant portion of jobs in this country is relied on its inefficiency of operations. For example, if a subway breaks down, you are gonna need ppl to fix that, but if it rountinely breaks down like every week, it creates jobs for many Canadians. Government has the intention to protect those jobs because it is better to let them work than getting social welfare for free.
I may sound a little bit synical and biased (I think I probably am ), but seriously consider what you are looking for in Canada. Btw, Canada's economy is going down and will remain so in the next few years becasue of the oil crisis, by the time you graduate from a Canadian university, jobs will be harder to find.
If all you want is immigration, this country has something to offer. |
