Q6: Do you agreeor disagree with the following statement? Visiting museums is the best way tolearn about a country.

Faced with thestatement that visiting museums is the best way to know a country, we shouldconsider adequate conditions and draw a conclusion conscientiously. Differentpeople may hold different views due to their distinctive educationalbackgrounds, personal experiences, values and so on. From my perspective, Ibasically disagree with the statement. And my view is based on deep andcardinal analysis discussed below.

At the verybeginning, it is sensible to concede that, this statement, though suffers fromsome pronounced drawbacks, possesses some merits. Museums are generallyregarded as the very icon of the history and culture of a country. Steppinginto the National Historical Museum of China, people could immerse themselvesinto the long history of China dating back to about 5,000 years ago. Hence, itseems that we will concur with the statement in our consciousness.Nevertheless, some other convincing reasons indicate that these edges do notmean visiting the museums should be attached high priority to when it comes tolearning about a country comprehensively.

My primary reasonfor my view is based on undeniable fact that museums merely serve as records ofhistorical events rather than what are ongoing in a country. The case of ThePalace Museum adds great weight to his reasoning. It is the biggest ancientcultural art museum in China, through whose collections, visitors could gain somecasual knowledge about Chinese culture, such as, the wedding ritual of Qingdynasty and the process of making ceramics in it. However, none of the culturalrecords nowadays are shown in the museum. Thereupon, people could only obtainthe historical dimension of the country through the museum, whereas to knowwhat is happening in the country currently should be attached greater emphasizeto.

Apart from thatmuseums are just historical records, I believe that, simply through the museum, people could not learn about vital information of other dimensions either, forinstance, the aspects of economy, technology, athletics and so on. To totallyunderstand a country and immerse oneself in their culture, it is imperative tointeract with the local people. Recently, increasing number of visitors wouldlike to live in the local people’s house instead of finding a hotel to stay in,which has become an undeniable tendency of travelling. Obviously, it benefits alot since visitors could try their foods, talk with local people abouteverything in any dimension to fulfill their curiosity, such as, the changesand developments in their life. Consequently, people could learn more aboutcurrent information rather than the historical events.

In a nutshell, owning to the aforementioned reasons involving that it is a mere historicalrecords and its narrow dimension, which sometimes interact to form an organicwhole and thus become more persuasive. We may safely draw the conclusion thatvisiting the museums is not the best way to learn about a country.
