Read this before you apply Finance phd:

Finance phd is hard!
Finance phd is hard!
Finance phd is hard!

Undergraduate is ok, master is easy, phd is hard!

If you did your undergraduate in U.S., and your gpa < 3.8, PHD WILL BE TOO HARD FOR YOU
If you did your master in U.S., and your gpa < 3.8, PHD WILL BE TOO HARD FOR YOU
If you don't have a STRONG MATH BACKGROUND, PHD WILL BE TOO HARD FOR YOU

Don't assume phd is at the same level as any earlier work, be fully prepared before you apply.
For those who don't believe me, you will know what I mean next year

However, don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something. Try it yourself then you won't regret!

I highly agree with you! However, I think stats and probability very important for the research while a lot of professors are not so good at it but are good at scolding the students!
Are programming and Real Analysis necessary too?
Currently I am preparing the GMAT and TOEFL for winning a stipend! Do u have any advice? thx!

Real analysis is required course for 1st year. and econ guys already took it in their undergraduate.
