机经上的一个独立作文题目:你同不同意,为了经济发展,我们可以忽略环境问题。
Accompany with the ever-increasing development of the global economy, the environment of our planet has experienced drastic changes in recent centuries. As a matter of fact, a series of disastrous consequences have emerged and have greatly influenced human beings’ further improvement. When it comes to the relationship between economic growth and environmental protection, there are controversial opinions on it. Some people believe that the environmental change is a natural part of our planet's gradual evolution, and we human beings can hardly have any substantial influence on this irreversible trend. However, a majority people hold the opposite viewpoint. They argue that it is human beings who should be responsible for the alarming environmental deterioration. Accordingly, we need and we can make a huge difference if we commit ourselves to alter our economic development strategy and growing pace. As far as I am concerned, I think human beings' economic activities do have a detrimental impact on our surroundings for the following considerations.
First and the foremost, immense exhaust-gas and waste are discharged into our atmosphere every day, due to the growing number of vehicles. As we all know, the growing economic has enabled more and more people to own one or even more cars. Hence the running cars on both the city streets and countryside roads seem would never have a stop. I suppose none of us will be surprised by the consequence that automotive exhausts have been the main source of air pollution. This reminds me of the notorious air pollution event happened in Beijing on January, 2013. Since Beijing has a large population over 20 million and, accordingly, we can conceive the great car number in Beijing. These cars play as exhaust-gas producers as long as they are running on the road. Without any doubts, these emissions have directly decreased the whole air quality of Beijing. Many experts and environmentalists claim that the hazardous smog weather in Beijing on January surely isn't an uncommon accident and rigorous environmental protection measures are urgently needed if Beijing do not want to be the next foggy city.
Secondly, with the rapid development of economy and urban, another trend has also endangered our environment--more and more wetland, farmland and forests are occupied as urban land. In other words, urban expansion and economic growth are demanding more land from our environment than ever. Both residential and industrial areas require to be enlarged, but the current city land are too limited, so many green land in the suburb are being swallowed up by cities in a quick pace. Take my hometown city Guangzhou as an example. The size of Guangzhou now is two times than it was three decades ago. And the price of this expansion is enormous, which is the natural green belt around the city has been greatly damaged. We should aware that this astonishing process is still undergoing in virtually every booming town all over the world.
From the analysis above and what we have experienced in our real life, I think no one would question the fact that the economic activities and its demand for high-speed development have lead to numerous environmental problems any more. The statement that we can ignore environmental problems when we pursue economic growth is unwise and dangerous as well.
