melting 这里是动名词，且是泛指，与后面的a rise泛指并列。

泛指不可以和特指并列。

我有同样的疑惑, 为什么melting is a adj. it can't be used as a noun.   不是只能用the +ving形式吗?请NN 解释一下+ving 做名词是的用法

可能是这个题里有may的选项may后面的内容不对，所以就选一个相对最好的，看来考试的时候也要具体情况具体分析，不能千篇一律

听XDF说过, 动名词前一定有个THE, (据说是是用这个方法判别是动名词还是分词),似乎和这里矛盾了.
