LAST-2-2-9

9. Governments have only one response to public criticism of socially necessary services: regulation of the activity of providing those services. But governments inevitably make the activity more expensive by regulating it, and that is particularly troublesome in these times of strained financial resources. However, since public criticism of child-care services has undermined all confidence in such services, and since such services are socially necessary, the government is certain to respond. Which one of the following statements can be inferred from the passage?

(A) The quality of child care will improve.

(B) The cost of providing child-care services will increase.

(C) the government will use funding to foster advances in child care.

(D) if public criticism of policy is strongly voiced, the government is certain to respond.

(E) If child-care services are not regulated, the cost of providing child care will not increase.

为什么E不对呢?

原文有关的推理为: regulating it------>make the activity more expensive。E为该命题的逆命题。不一定对。故不是答案

9. Governments have only one response to public criticism of socially necessary services: regulation ...

9. Spot the question type: Infer

Core of the argument,ent

If response from the government to public criticism of socially necessary services, it must be only one reply - regulation of the activity of providing those services.

If government regulate the activity ---> It must be more expensive ---> Trouble some in these times of strained financial resources.

If it is true that public criticism of child care services has undermined all confidences in such services and that such services are socially necessary, then it must be true that the government is certain to respond.

So, If it must be true that the government is certain to respond  ---> the regulation of child services must be more expensive ---> troublesome in these times of strained financial resources.

Let us see the answer choice:

A. Not necessary.

B. Yes !!!!!

C. Not necessary, it will reply by regulating the activity

D. Not necessary, since there are the other sufficient conditions to guarantee the reply from government

E. Mistaken negation !

If regulated ---> more expensive

and now it said, If no regulated ---> No more expensive.
