C选项错误，OG里给的解释是them指代不明。虽然很多NN说除了four million people, them可以指代前面的名词.
可是前面哪里有复数名词呢？them只有可能指代four million people。
盼望牛牛们解答。

把C选项还原后提炼出来的句子结构是：Laos has a land area (that is***), but in Laos (with***), many of themare***.
这么看的话them就无法指代people了，因为with a population of only four million people变成了伴随成分。
这题我也很模糊呢，不知这样想对不对~

恩恩，你这样想我认为是有道理的，代词一般都指代句子的主干部分的词比如主语、宾语。修饰成分很偏了很难指代到。
OG其他题目也有这个原因说无法指代的。

我想问问，为什么这里用whom可以呢？这个词用法到底是怎么样的呢？它也是指代people为什么可以呢

whom 只能指代人，充当宾格。题目中需要用一个关系代词指代people 同时位于介词of之后所以就只能够用宾格形式的 whom而不能用who了。
凡是指代人的就用who ，指代人的同时要使用宾格形式的就用 whom 不知道这样是否解释了你的疑惑。
