Most of Portugal’s 250,000 university students boycotted classes in a one-day strike to protest a law that requires them to contribute $330 a
year toward the cost of higher education, previously paying $7 per year.B

  1. year toward the cost of higher education, previously paying $7 per year
  2. year toward the cost of higher education, for which was previously paid $7 per year
  3. year, compared to the previously $7 per year, toward the cost of higher education
  4. year toward the cost of higher education, instead of the $7 per year required previously
  5. year as opposed to the $7 per year required previously for the cost of higher education

C compared 错

Eas opposed to 话多了

B changes the meaning.
"which" refers to "higher education" (the closet preceding noun), the "which" clause doesn't tell us who was paying $7 per year previously.

I dont get it.

YEs Which refers to "higher education", so the sentence become

for higher education was previously paid 7$ per year.   = 7$ per year was previously paid for higher education

maybe this sentence is wrong because the passive usage of "pay"?  dose it seem awkward to say something like "5$ was paid"?

C.previously要用adj.

E.toward/to the cost...不能用for.
