003. To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
The most significant elements that construct the society of our humans shall be politics, economy and culture, which are centralized to represent in major cities as the results of the process of the human’s social development. Consequently, the major cities must be the aspects that cannot be ignored to be taken into the consideration of the research field if one desires to understand the most important characteristics of a society.
It is the common sense that the economy is the basement of one society and major cities always play significant rules in societies’ economics aspect for the social resource they occupy and the considerable communication in economy between each other. It cannot be denied that the relative minor cities are very important factors when the researches concern the area which is a limited section; however, when the ranges are amplified to the level of the nation and the world, the more attention should be paid to major cities in order to understand a society better.
Besides, some of major cities, such as capitals, are the centre of politics of one country, so it is clear that the study of this kind of cities deserve its position in order to insight and understand the most essential characteristics of a society. Even though some self-government sections of a society are characterized with its unique political style and manners, however, they could not be capable to represent the most crucial characteristics of the society, which may misunderstand the most crucial style of one society if we ignore the major cities’ role in the politics of one society rather only researching the politics in relative minor area.
Admittedly, we shall not ignore that many cities in one country are equipped with abundant cultural recourse, but we should widen our perspectives to see that, as the argument above, the basement of one society is the economy; it is counterpart that surely the flourish of the economy will lead to the blooming of the culture. The major cities that play significant roles in the economy shall be the sections full of flourishing culture and could better represent the character of one society.
In retrospect, the diversity of characters in one society surely exists, but if we want to understand the most important characteristics of a society, we should select major cities that centralize politics, economy and culture and can represent these characteristics.
