102,yellow jackets number among the 900 or so species of the world's social wasps, wasps living in a highly cooperative and organized society where they consist almost entirely of females- the queen and her sterile female workers.

A wasps living in a highly cooperative and organized society where they consist almost entirely of
B wasps that livi in a highly cooperative and organized society consisting almost entirely of
C which means they live in a highly cooperative and organized society, amlost all
D which means that theri society is highly cooperative, organized, and it is almost entirely
E living in a society that is highly cooperative, organized, and it consists of almost all

答案是b,但是我对b的形式很陌生,前句尾是在wasps,后面又跟一个wasps,看上去很奇怪,什么时候用这样的形式呢?我跟熟悉直接加 that。

wasps living 是逗号前面的wasps的同位语
用which从句可能也可以,但是选项中没有。

我也觉得奇怪,看上去好像后面wasps这句似乎是独立的,需要主谓全。 等待大N解惑

求大N解释:是KEVINJPCN说,waps living是同位语吗?

这句是同位语--> Noun+noun modifier
waps是noun,后面的that live in  bla bla~ 就是修饰waps的

这里是同位语,用另一个名词修饰解释另一个名词的结构。两个名词相同的情况是修饰比较特殊的情况,一般是不同的,举个例子:
Mr. Smith, our new teacher,is very kind to us.

Noun+Modifier有两种形式:
一种是修饰之前的名词做同位语,例:Mr. Smith, our new teacher,is very kind to us.
另一种是独立主格结构修饰整个句子。例子:We shall assemble at ten forty-five, the procession to start moving at precisely eleven.

这是我自己的总结,请各位大牛拍砖指正!

另附上Manhattan对同位语和独立主格的解释:
Absolute Phrase-A phrase that consists of a noun and a noun modifier and that modifies a whole clause or sentence. An absolute phrase cannot stand alone as a sentence, but it often expresses an additional thought. An absolute phrase is separated from the main clause by a comma; it may come before or after that main clause.

Appositive-A noun or noun phrase that is places next to another noun to identify it. Often separated from the rest of the sentence by commas.
