Accounting PHD申请2012年真心求助

几天前，发现chasedream论坛几天下来，感觉就下发现哥伦布发现美洲一样激动，翻了无数accounting PHD，也特崇拜论坛里的大牛，比如ProFCPA,去了harvard的雪前辈，rochester等牛人。小弟现在也处于申请Accounting PHD的初阶段，想听听各位前辈的意见。这里先说说下小弟的情况。

小弟现在是RA（Research Assistant)，每年$16k fellowship+ tuition waiver+ research expense reimbursement.
去年开始读的MBA,明年5月份毕业，学校Nursing跟education方面很强，但是business school算是默默无名的那种。拿到Fellowship算很幸运，算是business school第一个拿到RA的还是中国人，一直都是给Education跟nursing的graduate students。主要是恩师,Mba director跟dean对小弟的厚爱.
没考GMAT因为学校MBA不强所以只要本校3.3GPA毕业就能免GMAT。

很想读Accounting PHD做个教授因为Between 500-700 Accounting faculty per year will retire over the next 10years, while Accounting Ph.d programs are averaging 140 graduates per year. 现在家里有人在big 4做很辛苦，所以知道accounting教授出来待遇算很好。

选校方面主要在纽约附近的new england地带因为家里人都在这里。很想去UConn因为恩师是那里毕业的但是也想知道纽约附近其他好的Accounting Phd program. 虽然小弟天赋资质都比不上牛人们，但也想为梦想而努力去试试比如NYU, Rochester, Columbia等牛校，不想辜负恩师对小弟的一番栽培。

准备这个夏天复习Gmat，然后申请明年2012的accounting phd，请各位牛人给小弟一些过来人的经验。不好意思第一次在这里发帖，而且表达能力也不好，万一讲话那里冒犯到大家的地方，还请多多原谅。

感觉帖子有点乱，想了想主要想知道东北地方比如纽约，康州，麻省附近一些好的Accounting PHD programs的名声还有fellowship等资料。

小弟的RA research topic方面是convergence of US GAAP with IFRS

挺好的背景啊，topic挺不错的（comparability相关的我比较喜欢，貌似也是热门吧）！我现在是master快毕业，但认识一些phd，一点个人观察：利用你老师的network多认识些人，离nyc近的话，看看能不能去听听他们的博士的课（只是想法，不知道能行不。。。）。有research背景的话，可以找找看哪个program适合你的方向，match的话机会会大一点。然后推荐信很重要~~加油！！btw，看过一个wharton的人写的job market paper，就是关于comparability的，你可以去找找，nyc离费城也不远。

"Between 500-700 Accounting faculty per year will retire over the next 10years” ---- this is true if you count ALL the colleges in the states, including those community colleges. For those schools which meet your criterion of being "good pay", the demand and supply are quite equal. In fact, i think the demand is slightly less than the supply this year due to the crisis. (correct me if others have better infor regarding this).

Uconn is a decent programme. Mike Willenborg, and John Philip are excellent researchers.

-jingzhimeg：太感谢了，放完假就去找导师问问他的意见，想要读phd的想法是在这个spring break的时候成熟跟确定的。要是大大来纽约的话，我可以带你到处逛逛 -。-

-changanyue:嗯美国本科+MBA，不过学校是州立大学，虽然跟uconn一个体系，但是business school算是最不好的一个program，这是一个硬伤。推荐信的话我学校的3个accounting正教授都对我有很大期望，都肯栽培推荐我的。

-huiyu： I agree with you, that's why I want to go to a top accounting PHd program, if not, at least I can assure a professor position at my school when i graduate.

I like Uconn because my sister and mentor both went there. Thank you for the info.

看来我现在要做的就是考完CPA考试后冲刺GMAT了

Your background is pretty good. You may not want to limit yourself in the NYC and New England area.. You are still young, a lot of things to experience. If you are married and you don't want to move, that is ok.
