People attend college or university for many different reasons (for example, new experiences, career preparation, increased knowledge). Why do you think people attend college or university? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

People attend college or university for different reasons. High school graduates attend university for focusing on specific academic area; Working professionals go back to university for refuel knowledge; Mums attend university for career preparation after their kids get matured; Some people attend university mainly for getting new experiences or building network. No matter what reasons for people to attend university, it is no doubt that people will gain a lot from attending college or university.
University is a platform for people to learn and share knowledge. People can find interesting areas matched his/her own interests. If one wants to be a lawyer, s/he can attend related courses to build knowledge. Some people may argue that knowledge can be gained from book, internet and other resources, and attending university is not really necessary. My view is that to attend university is to not only gain knowledge but also share ideas with professors and other students. It makes learning in university a big difference with learning on one’s own.

In addition to getting knowledge, building network is also an important reason to attend university. For example, more and more people are interested in MBA programs offered by business schools, one benefit they expect to gain from such kind of program is to build network for their future career in the business field. I am one of such type of applicant. Currently I am a mom and taking care of my baby at home but I still wish to pursue my career after my little one get matured. Thus I choose to apply for MBA program in order to refuel my knowledge and enhance my skills and more important to build network for my future career.

Besides increasing knowledge and building network, there are several merits of attending university. Experience of campus life and study, pleasant time with classmates, conversations with wise professors, different clubs and parties, and etc and etc. However, other people think that attending university is time-consuming, stressful, costly and even no guarantee to find a good job. But I still believe merits of attending university overweigh its disadvantages. One would not regret to attend university!
